Abstract

A system for presenting audio content to a user. The system comprises one or more microphones coupled to a frame of a headset. The one or more microphones capture sound from a local area. The system further comprises an audio controller integrated into the headset and communicatively coupled to an in-ear device worn by a user. The audio controller identifies one or more sound sources in the local area based on the captured sound. The audio controller further determines a target sound source of the one or more sound sources and determines one or more filters to apply to a sound signal associated with the target sound source in the captured sound. The audio controller further generates an augmented sound signal by applying the one or more filters to the sound signal and provides the augmented sound signal to the in-ear device for presentation to a user.

Claims (35)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . An audio system comprising:

one or more microphones that capture sounds, from a local area, including a leakage signal;

an audio controller that determines a mitigation signal that is out-of-phase to the leakage signal; and

a transducer array that provides the mitigation signal as an output signal, wherein the mitigation signal suppresses the leakage signal.

22 . The audio system of claim 21 , wherein the one or more microphones are part of an in-ear device.

23 . The audio system of claim 21 , wherein the one or more microphones are part of an eyewear device or artificial reality device.

24 . The audio system of claim 21 , wherein the leakage signal is a sound signal that is in-phase with an audio signal presented as audio content via the transducer array.

25 . The audio system of claim 21 , wherein the mitigation signal suppresses the leakage signal in a far field that is a threshold distance from the audio system.

26 . The audio system of claim 21 , wherein the audio controller further:

generates, based on the leakage signal, a filter for filtering out frequencies of the leakage signal; and

applies the generated filter to the leakage signal to generate the mitigation signal.

27 . The audio system of claim 21 , wherein the audio controller further:

detects a sound source and configures the mitigation signal to modify a second signal received from the sound source.

28 . The audio system of claim 27 , wherein the audio controller configures the mitigation signal to modify the second signal by updating one or more filters to increase apparent spatial separation between a target sound source and the sound source.

29 . The audio system of claim 28 , wherein the audio controller further determines the one or more filters based on one or more of: a location of the audio system in the local area, a location of each of one or more sound sources in the local area, one or more acoustic parameters of the local area, or types of sound sources in the local area.

30 . The audio system of claim 28 , wherein the audio controller is further configured to determine the target sound source based on a user gaze.

31 . The audio system of claim 28 , wherein the audio controller is further configured to determine the target sound source based on user-provided feedback.

32 . The audio system of claim 28 , wherein the audio controller is further configured to determine the target sound source based on a user gesture.

33 . The audio system of claim 21 , wherein the mitigation signal is based on a sound profile of a user of the audio system.

34 . A method performed by an audio system, the method comprising:

capturing, via one or more microphones and from a local area, sounds including a leakage signal;

determining a mitigation signal that is out-of-phase to the leakage signal; and

providing the mitigation signal as an output signal that suppresses the leakage signal.

35 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the one or more microphones are part of an in-ear device.

36 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the one or more microphones are part of an eyewear device or artificial reality device.

37 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the leakage signal is a sound signal that is in-phase with an audio signal presented as audio content via the transducer array.

38 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the mitigation signal suppresses the leakage signal in a far field that is a threshold distance from the audio system.

39 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a computing system, cause the computing system to:

capture, via one or more microphones and from a local area, sounds including a leakage signal;

determine a mitigation signal that is out-of-phase to the leakage signal; and

provide the mitigation signal as an output signal that suppresses the leakage signal.

40 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 39 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the computing system, further cause the computing system to:

generate, based on the leakage signal, a filter for filtering out frequencies of the leakage signal; and

apply the generated filter to the leakage signal to generate the mitigation signal.
