Abstract

The present invention provides systems and methods employing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to provide multi-channel, multi-access voice communication capabilities.

Claims (38)

16 . An intercommunication method, comprising:

generating an interactive control panel on a display device of a computing device, the control panel including a plurality of keys corresponding to communications channels, wherein:

selection of keys corresponding to a talk only function, a listen only function, or a talk and listen function causes the computing device to activate the corresponding function for respective communications channels;

selection of keys corresponding to point-to-point communications channels causes the computing device to activate a point-to-point private channel communication for respective communications channels;

selection of keys corresponding to group call communications channels causes the computing device to activate a group call between one or more operators acting as callers and a larger number of listeners; and

selection of keys corresponding to party line communications channels causes the computing device to activate a party line for a group conference between a plurality of callers and listeners.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the control panel provides dynamic color codes that indicate channel status including offline, online, actuated, channel activity, and incoming call status.

18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the control panel provides an indication of the log on status of a plurality of operators or listeners.

19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the control panel provides an indication of the active communication status of a channel.

20 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the control panel provides a plurality of different selectable key arrangement options provided to different operators.

21 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the method further comprises providing an Answer Back key that enables establishing a direct voice path with another operator by right clicking on the Answer Back key and selecting the desired operator from a list of all users logged on to the system.

22 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the method further comprises providing Channel Interrupt Fold Back (IFB), the ability to temporarily interrupt or dim an audio source monitored by a client when another client activates a talk to that client.

23 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the method further comprises providing client adjustable audio level control for each communication channel with differentiated handling of audio levels for individual clients and groups.

24 . An intercommunication system, comprising:

a processor;

a memory storing software that, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to:

generate an interactive control panel on a display device of a computing device, the control panel including a plurality of keys corresponding to communications channels, wherein:

selection of keys corresponding to a talk only function, a listen only function, or a talk and listen function causes the computing device to activate the corresponding function for respective communications channels;

selection of keys corresponding to point-to-point communications channels causes the computing device to activate a point-to-point private channel communication for respective communications channels;

selection of keys corresponding to group call communications channels causes the computing device to activate a group call between one or more operators acting as callers and a larger number of listeners; and

selection of keys corresponding to party line communications channels causes the computing device to activate a party line for a group conference between a plurality of callers and listeners.

25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the control panel provides dynamic color codes that indicate channel status including offline, online, actuated, channel activity, and incoming call status.

26 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the control panel provides an indication of the log on status of a plurality of operators or listeners.

27 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the control panel provides an indication of the active communication status of a channel.

28 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the control panel provides a plurality of different selectable key arrangement options provided to different operators.

29 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the software, when executed by the processor, further causes the processor to provide an Answer Back key that enables establishing a direct voice path with another operator by right clicking on the Answer Back key and selecting the desired operator from a list of all users logged on to the system.

30 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the software, when executed by the processor, further causes the processor to provide Channel Interrupt Fold Back (IFB), the ability to temporarily interrupt or dim an audio source monitored by a client when another client activates a talk to that client.

31 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the software, when executed by the processor, further causes the processor to provide client adjustable audio level control for each communication channel with differentiated handling of audio levels for individual clients and groups.

32 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

generate an interactive control panel on a display device of a computing device, the control panel including a plurality of keys corresponding to communications channels, wherein:

selection of keys corresponding to a talk only function, a listen only function, or a talk and listen function causes the computing device to activate the corresponding function for respective communications channels;

selection of keys corresponding to point-to-point communications channels causes the computing device to activate a point-to-point private channel communication for respective communications channels;

selection of keys corresponding to group call communications channels causes the computing device to activate a group call between one or more operators acting as callers and a larger number of listeners; and

selection of keys corresponding to party line communications channels causes the computing device to activate a party line for a group conference between a plurality of callers and listeners.

33 . The computer-readable medium of claim 32 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to generate the control panel with dynamic color codes that indicate channel status including offline, online, actuated, channel activity, and incoming call status.

34 . The computer-readable medium of claim 32 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to generate the control panel with an indication of the log on status of a plurality of operators or listeners.

35 . The computer-readable medium of claim 32 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to generate the control panel with an indication of the active communication status of a channel.
