Abstract

Examples relate generally to improvements in generation of wireframe renderings derived from 2D and/or 3D data that includes at least one structure of interest in a scene. Such wireframe renderings and similar formats can be used in, among other things, 2D/3D CAD drawings, designs, drafts, models, building information models, augmented reality or virtual reality, and the like. Measurements, dimensions, geometric information, and semantic information generated according to the inventive methods can be accurate in relation to the actual structures. The wireframe renderings can be generated from a combination of a plurality of 2D images and point clouds, processing of point clouds to generate virtual/synthetic views to be used with the point clouds, or from 2D image data that has been processed in a machine learning process to generate 3D data. In some aspects, the wireframe renderings are accurate in relation to the actual structure of interest, automatically generated, or both.

Claims (15)

1 . A method of generating a CAD model of a real-life structure in a scene comprising:

a. identifying, by either or both of a computer or a user, the real-life structure in a scene;

b. generating, by either or both of the computer or the user, 2D and 3D representation information associated with the real-life structure, wherein the 2D and 3D representation information are each generated by either or both of:

i. deriving, by the computer, one or more point clouds from a plurality of 2D images including representations of the real-life structure, thereby providing 2D image and associated 3D point cloud information for the real-life structure; or

ii. deriving, by the computer, 2D information from one or more point clouds including representations of the real-life structure, thereby providing 3D point cloud information and associated 2D information for the real-life structure;

c. deriving, by the computer, 3D object information including either or both of object edge or skeletal information, wherein the 3D object information is associated with the real-life structure;

d. extracting, by the computer, one or more geometric primitives from the 3D object information;

e. processing, by the computer, the one or more geometric primitives, wherein the processing comprises:

i. generating edge, surface, and orientation information for each of the one or more geometric primitives;

ii. identifying geometric primitives having intersections with one or more other geometric primitives; and

iii. deriving intersection and spatial relationship information associated with each of the intersecting geometric primitives;

f. deriving, by the computer, a wireframe having a plurality of surfaces, wherein the wireframe comprises a 3D rendering of all or part of the real-life structure;

g. identifying, by either or both of the computer or the user, one or more object surfaces on the wireframe as corresponding to one or more objects associated with the real-life structure;

h. incorporating, by the computer, information associated with each of the one or more identified object surfaces in an object-based representation format; and

i. generating a CAD model corresponding to all or part of the real-life structure.
