Abstract

A website is navigated automatically in a sequential manner, for example by performing a series of specific network requests in a specified order, without necessarily using a browser, and without necessarily rendering each web page in the sequence. Interactions with a website are automatically recorded, stored, and analyzed. Requests and responses can be associated with particular input/output operations. Based on the analysis, the system can determine what data is expected by web servers, so that it can effectively simulate browser operations in connection with those web servers, and extract useful information from the data received in response to those operations. Thus, data extraction and/or other operations can be performed more efficiently and more quickly, while reducing the computing resources needed.

Claims (61)

46 . A computer-implemented method on a client device for interacting with web based systems, comprising:

obtaining a communication structure of a web based system, the communication structure comprising:

a request containing a first data, and

a key to manipulate the first data in the request;

generating at least one rewritten network request based on the communication structure, the rewritten network request including substitute data in place of the first data by implementing the substitute data based on the key in the request; and

executing the rewritten network request based on the communication structure.

47 . The computer-implemented method of claim 46 , wherein executing the rewritten network request includes transmitting the rewritten network request to the web based system.

48 . The computer-implemented method of claim 46 , further comprising:

identifying data to be obtained from the web based system; and

generating the substitute data based on the identified data to be obtained.

49 . The computer-implemented method of claim 46 , further comprising:

obtaining a code to be tested on the web based system; and

generating the substitute data based on the obtained code.

50 . The computer-implemented method of claim 46 , wherein the computer-implemented method is performed multiple times in parallel, with different substitute data in each case.

51 . The computer-implemented method of claim 46 , further comprising:

obtaining a result of executing the rewritten network request from the web based system.

52 . The computer-implemented method of claim 51 , further comprising:

causing the web based system to revert to a state from prior to executing the rewritten network request.

53 . The computer-implemented method of claim 46 , wherein executing the rewritten network request is performed without rendering a webpage of the web based system.

54 . The computer-implemented method of claim 46 , further comprising:

receiving a response to executing the rewritten network request from the web based system.

55 . The computer-implemented method of claim 54 , wherein:

the response includes an instruction to set at least one parameter; and

the computer-implemented method further comprises:

setting the parameter with reference to the instruction in the response, such that a next network request is based on the set parameter.

56 . A computer-implemented method on a client device for interacting with web based systems, comprising:

obtaining a communication structure of a web based system, the communication structure comprising:

a request containing a first data, and

a key to manipulate the first data in the request;

obtaining a code to be tested on the web based system;

generating substitute data based on the obtained code;

generating at least one rewritten network request based on the communication structure, the rewritten network request including the substitute data in place of the first data by implementing the substitute data based on the key in the request; and

transmitting the rewritten network request to the web based system.

57 . The computer-implemented method of claim 56 , further comprising:

identifying data to be obtained from the web based system; and

generating the substitute data based on the identified data to be obtained.

58 . The computer-implemented method of claim 56 , wherein the computer-implemented method is performed multiple times in parallel, with different substitute data in each case.

59 . The computer-implemented method of claim 56 , further comprising:

obtaining a result of executing the rewritten network request from the web based system.

60 . The computer-implemented method of claim 59 , further comprising:

causing the web based system to revert to a state from prior to executing the rewritten network request.

61 . The computer-implemented method of claim 56 , wherein executing the rewritten network request is performed without rendering a webpage of the web based system.

62 . The computer-implemented method of claim 56 , further comprising:

receiving a response to executing the rewritten network request from the web based system.

63 . The computer-implemented method of claim 62 , wherein:

the response includes an instruction to set at least one parameter; and

the computer-implemented method further comprises:

setting the parameter with reference to the instruction in the response, such that a next network request is based on the set parameter.

64 . A computer-implemented method on a client device for interacting with web based systems, comprising:

obtaining a communication structure of a web based system, the communication structure comprising:

a request containing a first data, and

a key to manipulate the first data in the request;

obtaining a plurality of codes to be tested on the web based system;

obtaining an instance of substitute data for each of the plurality of codes;

in parallel, for each instance of substitute data,

generating at least one rewritten network requests based on the communication structure, the rewritten network request including the instance of substitute data in place of the first data by implementing the instance of substitute data based on the key in the request; and

executing the rewritten network request based on the communication structure.

65 . The computer-implemented method of claim 64 , further comprising:

obtaining a plurality of responses from the web based system to the rewritten network requests executed in parallel; and

identifying whether each of the plurality of codes passed testing based on the plurality of responses.
