Abstract

Systems and methods for enabling the secure use of cryptocurrencies (such as but not limited to Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin) in prize funds or gift cards that accept purchases or wagers in fiat currencies and payout in cryptocurrency. The prize funds can be associated with lotteries, charitable gaming, or casino environments with the inherent volatility of cryptocurrencies optionally mitigated and cryptocurrency payouts enabled for consumers or players without prior digital wallets as well as consumers or players with preexisting digital wallets.

Claims (35)

1 . A winning draw game ticket for a draw game, the winning draw game ticket comprising:

a substrate;

an inventory control number portion on the substrate and comprising:

machine-readable indicia, and

redundant human-readable text indicia; and

a digital wallet portion on the substrate and comprising:

machine-readable indicia embodying a digital wallet address and private key, and

redundant human-readable text indicia embodying a digital wallet address and private key;

wherein the digital wallet portion is fundable with cryptocurrency at a specified time after a drawing for the draw game.

2 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 1 , which is associated with a plurality of possible different prize levels.

3 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 2 , wherein only a portion of the different prize levels is fundable with cryptocurrency.

4 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of possible different prize levels comprises a prize level of $1 that is not fundable with cryptocurrency.

5 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of possible different prize levels comprises a grand prize that is fundable with cryptocurrency.

6 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 1 , wherein the specified time is a predetermined time period after the drawing for the draw game.

7 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of possible different prize levels comprises a prize amount that can be received in fiat currency or cryptocurrency.

8 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 1 , wherein the digital wallet portion is funded with cryptocurrency after a lottery terminal scans the machine-readable indicia of the inventory control number portion and then designates a prize to be paid out in cryptocurrency via the lottery terminal.

9 . The winning draw game ticket of claim 1 , wherein the digital wallet portion is funded with cryptocurrency after an electronic personal device running a lottery application scans the machine-readable indicia of the inventory control number portion.

The winning draw game ticket of claim 1 , wherein the digital wallet portion is fundable with the cryptocurrency based on a conversion rate from a quoted prize amount in fiat currency to an equivalent prize amount in cryptocurrency at the time the digital wallet portion is funded with the cryptocurrency.

11 . A method for using a lottery retailer terminal to print and redeem a draw game ticket with a plurality of possible prize values for a drawing of a draw game and a separate receipt with an associated digital wallet embodiment, the method comprising:

causing a lottery retailer terminal to print on a first substrate the draw game ticket with an inventory control number portion comprising:

machine-readable indicia, and

redundant human-readable text indicia;

causing a drawing of the draw game to occur with the winning draw game ticket identified; and

enabling a redemption of the winning draw game ticket by scanning the inventory control number with the lottery retailer terminal and the lottery retailer terminal printing on a second substrate the separate receipt with an associated digital wallet embodiment comprising:

machine-readable indicia embodying a digital wallet public address and private key, and

redundant human-readable text indicia embodying a digital public wallet address and private key.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the separate receipt with an associated digital wallet embodiment digital wallet printed indicia are embodied as a Quick Response (QR) code.

13 . The method of claim 11 , which comprises using a conversion rate to convert a quoted prize amount in fiat currency to an equivalent prize amount in cryptocurrency at the time the separate receipt with an associated digital wallet embodiment is printed.

14 . The method of claim 11 , which comprises enabling a consumer to receive one of the prize values in either fiat currency or cryptocurrency.

15 . The method of claim 14 , which comprises printing the separate receipt with an associated digital wallet embodiment by the lottery retailer terminal only if the consumer decides to receive said prize value in cryptocurrency.

16 . The method of claim 11 , which comprises causing the separate receipt with an associated digital wallet embodiment to be funded with cryptocurrency at a specified time after the drawing for the draw game.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the specified time for funding the separate receipt with an associated digital wallet embodiment with cryptocurrency occurs three hours after the drawing for the draw game.

18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein only a portion of the plurality of possible prize values can be funded with cryptocurrency.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein a prize level of $1 of the plurality of possible prize values cannot be funded with cryptocurrency.

20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein a grand prize of the plurality of possible prize values cannot be funded with cryptocurrency.
