Abstract

An image capture device with a housing, a drainage microphone, processor, and drainage channel. The housing defining an audio depression. The drainage microphone coupled to the housing at a location of the audio depression and configured to capture audio. The processor coupled with a memory storing instructions that when executed cause the processor to apply a set of tuned beamforming parameters to the captured audio. The drainage channel within the housing to drain moisture from the drainage microphone. The drainage channel defining a channel entrance having a channel entrance width and a channel entrance height.

Claims (63)

1 . An image capture device, comprising:

a housing comprising

an audio depression disposed on the housing

a drainage microphone coupled to the housing at the audio depression and configured to capture audio;

a cover extending over the audio depression;

a drainage channel formed between the audio depression and the cover with the drainage channel comprising:

a channel entrance on a first side of the cover that allows liquids to enter between the audio depression and the cover and

a channel exit on a second side of the cover that allows the liquid to exit from between the audio depression and the cover; and

a second microphone located on a second side of the housing adjacent to the drainage microphone.

2 . The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein the channel entrance has a width that is at least five times a height of the channel entrance.

3 . The image capture device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a waterproof membrane located within the audio depression and covering the drainage microphone.

4 . The image capture device of claim 3 , wherein the waterproof membrane prevents liquid from directly contacting the drainage microphone.

5 . The image capture device of claim 3 , further comprising:

a compression gasket; and

an acoustic sealing gasket located between the drainage microphone and the housing.

6 . The image capture device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a channel volume located between the audio depression and the cover.

7 . The image capture device of claim 6 , wherein the cover includes an outer cover surface, an inner cover surface, and an upper cover chamfer positioned between the channel entrance and the channel volume.

8 . The image capture device of claim 7 , wherein the cover includes a lower cover chamfer positioned between the channel exit and the channel volume and located opposite the upper cover chamfer.

9 . An image capture device, comprising:

a housing comprising:

an audio depression forming a recess within the housing;

a cover extending over the audio depression; and

a drainage channel that extends between the audio depression of the housing and the cover, wherein the drainage channel extends between a channel entrance located along a top of the cover and a channel exit located along a bottom of the cover;

a drainage microphone located adjacent to the audio depression, the drainage microphone configured to capture audio; and

a processor coupled with a memory storing instructions that when executed cause the processor to apply a set of tuned beamforming parameters to the captured audio.

10 . The image capture device of claim 9 , further comprising:

a waterproof membrane located within the audio depression and covering the drainage microphone.

11 . The image capture device of claim 10 , wherein the waterproof membrane prevents liquid from directly contacting the drainage microphone.

12 . The image capture device of claim 11 , wherein a channel entrance width of the channel entrance is greater than 4 mm.

13 . The image capture device of claim 12 , wherein the channel entrance and the channel exit are positioned on a single surface of the housing, and wherein the cover includes an outer cover surface, an inner cover surface, and a lower cover chamfer formed on the inner cover surface adjacent the channel exit.

14 . The image capture device of claim 9 , further comprising:

a second microphone disposed on a second surface of the housing;

an audio assembly coupling the drainage microphone and the second microphone, the audio assembly configured to capture the audio as a first audio channel via the drainage microphone and the audio as a second audio channel via the second microphone from an audio source, the audio assembly further configured to output the first audio channel and the second audio channel; and

the processor further configured to:

receive the first audio channel and the second audio channel;

process the first audio channel using the set of tuned beamforming parameters to generate a first virtual audio channel and process the second audio channel using the set of tuned beamforming parameters to generate a second virtual audio channel;

combine the first virtual audio channel and the second virtual audio channel into an audio stream that is configured for stereo audio playback; and

output the audio stream.

15 . The image capture device of claim 9 , further comprising:

a channel volume located between the audio depression and the cover.

16 . An image capture device comprising:

a housing defining an audio depression positioned on a first surface of the housing;

a drainage microphone coupled to the housing at a location of the audio depression, the drainage microphone configured to capture audio;

a second microphone disposed on a second surface of the housing, wherein the second surface is adjacent to the first surface and is configured to capture the audio;

a processor coupled with a memory storing instructions that when executed cause the processor to:

receive the captured audio from the drainage microphone, the second microphone, or both; and

process the captured audio; and

a drainage channel defined in the housing to drain moisture from the audio depression, the drainage channel comprising:

a channel entrance having a channel entrance width and a channel entrance height, and

a channel exit having a channel exit width and a channel exit height.

17 . The image capture device of claim 16 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

apply a set of tuned beamforming parameters to the captured audio;

process the captured audio by processing a first audio channel and a second audio channel using the set of tuned beamforming parameters to generate a first virtual audio channel and a second virtual audio channel;

combine the first virtual audio channel and the second virtual audio channel into an audio stream that is configured for stereo audio playback; and

output the audio stream.

18 . The image capture device of claim 16 , further comprising:

a waterproof membrane located within the audio depression and covering the drainage microphone.

19 . The image capture device of claim 18 , wherein the waterproof membrane prevents liquid from directly contacting the drainage microphone.

20 . The image capture device of claim 18 , further comprising:

a compression gasket and

an acoustic sealing gasket located between the drainage microphone and the housing.
