DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING KNEE REPLACEMENTS
Knee replacement prosthesis are provided, comprising a plurality of sensors and at least one of a femoral component, a patellar prosthesis and a tibial component.
1 . A tibial component of a knee prosthesis, the tibial component comprising:
a tibial stem having an opening; and
sensors comprising a plurality of accelerometers mechanically attached to the tibial stem by way of the opening to provide permanent attachment of the plurality of accelerometers to the tibial component.
2 . The tibial component of claim 1 , wherein an accelerometer of the plurality of accelerometers is configured to provide data on range of motion of the tibial stem.
3 . The tibial component of claim 1 , further comprising an electronic processor coupled to the plurality of accelerometers.
4 . The tibial component of claim 3 , wherein the tibial stem comprises a hollow, internal portion configured to house the electronic processor.
5 . The tibial component of claim 3 , further comprising a memory coupled to the electronic processor.
6 . The tibial component of claim 1 , wherein the sensors further comprise a rotation sensor.
7 . A method comprising:
obtaining acceleration data from accelerometers positioned at a plurality of locations on a tibial component of a knee prosthesis of clam 1 located in-situ in the knee of a patient;
storing the acceleration data in a memory located in the knee prosthesis; and
transferring the acceleration data from the memory in the knee prosthesis to a memory in a location outside the knee prosthesis or medical device.
