Abstract

Devices and methods for treatment of a patient's vasculature may include a self-expanding permeable implant having a plurality of elongate filaments forming a tubular braided structure secured in a hub at a proximal end of the permeable implant. At least some filaments may have a diameter between about 0.0005 and about 0.005 inches. The implant includes at least some filaments consisting of nitinol and at least some composite filaments that are drawn filled tube wires comprising an external nitinol tube and a radiopaque material concentrically disposed within the external tube. The implant has at least about 25% composite filaments relative to a total number of filaments, and wherein a total number of filaments is about 10 to about 300.

Claims (25)

1 . A device for treatment of a patient's vasculature, comprising:

a self-expanding permeable implant comprising a plurality of elongate filaments forming a tubular braided structure secured in a hub at a proximal end of the permeable implant, wherein at least some filaments of the plurality of elongate filaments have a diameter between about 0.0005 inches to about 0.005 inches, the permeable implant comprising at least some nitinol filaments and at least some composite filaments, wherein each of the at least some composite filaments comprise an external nitinol tube and a radiopaque material concentrically disposed within the external tube, and wherein the permeable implant has at least about 25% composite filaments relative to a total number of filaments, and wherein a total number of filaments is about 10 to about 300.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elongate filaments forming a tubular braided structure are further secured in a hub at a distal end of the permeable implant.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the radiopaque material of the composite filaments comprises a material selected from the group consisting of tantalum, platinum, and gold.

4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein each of the composite filaments has a diameter selected from the group consisting of 0.00075″, 0.001″, 0.0015″, and 0.00125″.

5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the total number of filaments is selected from the group consisting of about 10 to about 100, about 60 to about 80, about 100 to about 200, and about 80 to about 180.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the total number of filaments is about 70 to about 300.

7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein each filament of the plurality of elongate filaments has a diameter between about 0.0008 inches to about 0.004 inches.

8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein each filament of the plurality of elongate filaments has a diameter between about 0.001 inches to about 0.003 inches.

9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein each filament of the plurality of elongate filaments has a diameter between about 0.0004 inches to about 0.002 inches.

10 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the permeable implant has at least about 40% composite filaments relative to a total number of filaments.

11 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elongate filaments comprises two or more sizes of filaments.

The device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elongate filaments comprises a first set of filaments having a first transverse dimension and a second set of filaments having a second transverse dimension, wherein the first transverse dimension is different from the second transverse dimension.

13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the first transverse dimension is between about 0.0004 inches to about 0.001 inches.

14 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the first transverse dimension is between about 0.0006 inches to about 0.002 inches.

15 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the second transverse dimension is between about 0.0015 inches to about 0.004 inches.

16 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the second transverse dimension is between about 0.001 inches to about 0.004 inches.

17 . A method for treating a patient's vasculature, comprising the steps of:

advancing a self-expanding permeable implant coupled to a pusher within a catheter to a region of interest within the patient's vasculature,

wherein the self-expanding permeable implant comprises a plurality of elongate filaments forming a tubular braided structure secured in a hub at a proximal end of the permeable implant, wherein at least some filaments of the plurality of elongate filaments have a diameter between about 0.0005 inches to about 0.005 inches, the permeable implant comprising at least some nitinol filaments and at least some composite filaments, wherein each of the at least some composite filaments comprise an external nitinol tube and a radiopaque material concentrically disposed within the external tube, and wherein the permeable implant has at least about 25% composite filaments relative to a total number of filaments, and wherein a total number of filaments is about 10 to about 300;

deploying the permeable implant in the region of interest, wherein the permeable implant expands to an expanded state; and

detaching the permeable implant from the pusher.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of elongate filaments forming a tubular braided structure are further secured in a hub at a distal end of the permeable implant.

19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein each filament of the plurality of elongate filaments has a diameter between about 0.0008 inches to about 0.004 inches.

20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the permeable implant has at least about 40% composite filaments relative to a total number of filaments.
