Abstract

A vapor delivery system and method is provided that is adapted for treating prostate tissue. The vapor delivery system includes a vapor delivery needle configured to deliver condensable vapor energy to tissue. In one method, the vapor delivery system is advanced transurethrally into the patient to access the prostate tissue. The vapor delivery system includes a generator unit and an inductive heating system to produce a high quality vapor for delivery to tissue. Methods of use are also provided.

9 . A syringe assembly comprising:

a barrel configured to contain a fluid, the barrel having an exit port offset from a center line of the barrel;

a plunger movably disposed within the barrel, wherein the fluid is delivered via the exit port upon movement of the plunger toward the exit port; and

a rod that removably attaches to the plunger.

10 . The syringe assembly of claim 9 , further comprising a luer fitting coupled to the exit port.

11 . The syringe assembly of claim 9 , wherein the rod is configured to move the plunger backward to fill the barrel with the fluid.

12 . The syringe assembly of claim 11 , wherein the rod is configured to be removed from the plunger after the barrel is filled with the fluid.

13 . A vapor delivery system for use with the syringe assembly of claim 9 , wherein the vapor delivery system includes a generator unit having a cradle for receiving the barrel of the syringe assembly.

14 . The vapor delivery system of claim 13 , further comprising a piston, wherein the piston is configured to engage the plunger to deliver the fluid from the barrel when the barrel is positioned in the cradle.

15 . The vapor delivery system of claim 14 , wherein a linear motor is configured to advance the piston, thereby controlling a rate at which the fluid is delivered from the exit port.

16 . The vapor delivery system of claim 13 , wherein, upon insertion of the barrel into the cradle, a contact switch of the generator unit is activated and the fluid is allowed to be delivered from the exit port.

17 . A vapor delivery system, comprising:

a syringe assembly, including:

a barrel configured to contain a fluid;

a plunger movably disposed within the barrel, wherein the fluid of the barrel is delivered via an exit port of the barrel upon movement of the plunger toward the exit port; and

a rod, wherein the rod is removably attached to the plunger, and

a generator unit including a cradle configured to receive the barrel.

18 . The vapor delivery system of claim 17 , wherein the generator unit includes a piston, wherein the piston is configured to engage the plunger to deliver the fluid from the exit port.

19 . The vapor delivery system of claim 17 , wherein, upon insertion of the barrel into the cradle, a contact switch of the generator unit is activated and fluid is allowed to be delivered from the exit port.

20 . The vapor delivery system of claim 17 , wherein the barrel has an exit port that is offset from a center line of the barrel.

21 . The vapor delivery system of claim 17 , wherein the cradle is configured to move laterally within the generator unit.

22 . A vapor delivery system, comprising:

a generator unit having a cradle and a piston; and

a syringe assembly configured for insertion into the cradle, wherein the syringe assembly includes:

a barrel configured to contain a fluid, the barrel having an exit port; and

a plunger movably disposed within the barrel, wherein the fluid of the barrel is delivered via the exit port upon movement of the plunger toward the exit port, wherein, upon insertion of the barrel into the cradle, the piston removably engages the plunger to move the plunger toward the exit port.

23 . The vapor delivery system of claim 22 , wherein the barrel is offset from a center line of the barrel.

24 . The vapor delivery system of claim 22 , wherein a linear motor is attached to the piston, wherein the linear motor is configured to control a rate at which the fluid is delivered from the exit port.

25 . The vapor delivery system of claim 23 , wherein, upon insertion of the barrel into the cradle, a contact switch of the generator unit is activated and fluid is permitted to be delivered from the exit port.

26 . The vapor delivery system of claim 23 , wherein, prior to insertion of the barrel into the cradle, a removable rod is detached from the plunger.

27 . The vapor delivery system of claim 23 , further comprising a luer fitting coupled to the exit port, wherein the luer fitting is configured to connect to a tube member.

28 . The vapor delivery system of claim 23 , wherein the cradle is configured to move laterally within the generator unit.
