Abstract

A finger-worn wearable ring device may include a ring-shaped housing, a printed circuit board, and a sensor module that includes one or more light-emitting components and one or more light-receiving components. The wearable ring device may further include a communication module configured to wirelessly communicate with an application executable on a user device.

Claims (60)

2 . A wrist-worn wearable computing device, comprising:

a housing comprising an interior surface and an exterior surface, the interior surface configured to at least partially contact tissue of a wrist of a user;

a plurality of sensors disposed at least partially within the housing, the plurality of sensors configured to acquire data from the user associated with at least one of physical activity, sleep, or health of the user, the plurality of sensors comprising:

at least one light-emitting diode (LED) configured to emit light associated with two or more wavelengths, wherein the two or more wavelengths include a first wavelength associated with infrared light and a second wavelength associated with visible light;

at least one light sensor configured to receive the light associated with the two or more wavelengths; and

at least one temperature sensor configured to measure temperature of the user;

one or more actuators positioned at least partially within the housing, the one or more actuators configured to provide haptic feedback to the user based at least in part on the data acquired via the plurality of sensors; and

a communication module communicatively coupled with the plurality of sensors, the communication module configured to transmit, to a user device, the data acquired by the plurality of sensors, an analysis of the data generated by one or more processors of the wrist-worn wearable computing device, or both.

The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of sensors further comprise a global positioning system (GPS), wherein the one or more processors of the wrist-worn wearable computing device are configured to determine a location of the user based at least in part on the GPS.

4 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 3 , wherein one or more processors of the wrist-worn wearable computing device are further configured to:

determine one or more activities engaged in by the user based at least in part on the location of the user.

5 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 3 , wherein the one or more actuators are configured to provide the haptic feedback to the user based at least in part on the location of the user.

6 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 5 , wherein one or more processors of the wrist-worn wearable computing device are further configured to:

determine a heading associated with the user based at least in part on the location of the user, wherein the one or more actuators are configured to provide the haptic feedback to the user based at least in part on the heading.

7 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of sensors further comprise:

one or more photovoltaic cells configured to receive additional light through the housing and recharge a battery of the wrist-worn wearable computing device based at least in part on the additional light received by the one or more photovoltaic cells.

8 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , wherein the wrist-worn wearable computing device comprises a timepiece computing device.

9 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , wherein the housing comprises a cylindrical-shaped housing, wherein a radius of the cylindrical-shaped housing is larger than a height of the cylindrical-shaped housing.

10 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , wherein the housing of the wrist-worn wearable computing device is configured to be coupled with a wristband that is configured to wrap around the wrist of the user to secure the housing against the wrist of the user.

11 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , further comprising:

a rechargeable battery electrically coupled with the plurality of sensors and the communication module; and

a power management module configured to wirelessly receive power, from a case external to the wrist-worn wearable computing device, through the exterior surface of the housing via an inductive charging process to recharge the rechargeable battery while the user is wearing the wrist-worn wearable computing device.

The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 11 , wherein the interior surface of the housing comprises an interior curved surface, wherein the exterior surface of the housing comprises an exterior curved surface, wherein the power management module is configured to wirelessly receive the power through the exterior curved surface.

13 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , wherein the at least one LED is further configured to emit light associated with a third wavelength that is different from the first wavelength and the second wavelength.

14 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , wherein the housing comprises a metallic material, wherein the housing comprises a window within the interior surface configured to enable light to pass through the interior surface from the at least one LED and to the at least one light sensor.

15 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 2 , further comprising:

a rechargeable battery; and

a status indicator module configured to indicate a charge status of the rechargeable battery.

16 . A wrist-worn wearable computing device, comprising:

a housing comprising an interior surface and an exterior surface, the interior surface configured to at least partially contact tissue of a wrist of a user;

a plurality of sensors disposed at least partially within the housing, the plurality of sensors configured to acquire data from the user associated with at least one of physical activity, sleep, or health of the user, the plurality of sensors comprising:

a global positioning system (GPS);

at least one light-emitting diode (LED) configured to emit light associated with two or more wavelengths, wherein the two or more wavelengths include a first wavelength associated with infrared light and a second wavelength associated with visible light; and

at least one light sensor configured to receive the light associated with the two or more wavelengths;

a status indicator module configured to display visual information to the user based at least in part on the data collected by the plurality of sensors; and

one or more processors disposed at least partially within the wrist-worn wearable computing device and communicatively coupled with the plurality of sensors, wherein the one or more processors are configured to:

determine a location of the user based at least in part on the GPS; and

cause the status indicator module to display the visual information to the user that is based at least in part on the location of the user.

17 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 16 , wherein one or more processors are further configured to:

determine a heading of the user based at least in part on the location; and

cause the status indicator module to display navigation information based at least in part on the heading.

18 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 16 , wherein one or more processors are further configured to:

determine one or more activities engaged in by the user based at least in part on the location of the user.

19 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 16 , further comprising:

one or more actuators positioned at least partially within the housing, the one or more actuators configured to provide haptic feedback to the user based at least in part on the location of the user.

20 . A wrist-worn wearable computing device, comprising:

a housing comprising an interior surface and an exterior surface, the interior surface configured to at least partially contact tissue of a wrist of a user;

a plurality of sensors disposed at least partially within the housing, the plurality of sensors configured to acquire data from the user associated with at least one of physical activity, sleep, or health of the user, the plurality of sensors comprising:

at least one light-emitting diode (LED) and a light sensor;

a temperature sensor configured to measure temperature of the user; and

an accelerometer, a gyroscope, or both, configured to detect movement of the user;

one or more actuators positioned at least partially within the housing, the one or more actuators configured to provide haptic feedback to the user based at least in part on the data acquired via the plurality of sensors;

a status indicator module configured to display visual feedback to the user based at least in part on the data collected by the plurality of sensors; and

one or more processors disposed at least partially within the wrist-worn wearable computing device and communicatively coupled with the plurality of sensors, wherein the one or more processors are configured to:

determine a gesture performed by the user based at least in part on the movement detected by the accelerometer, the gyroscope, or both;

cause a communication module of the wrist-worn wearable computing device to transmit a signal to a mobile device, an external device, or both, to perform one or more functions external to the wrist-worn wearable computing device; and

cause, based at least in part on the gesture, the one or more actuators to provide haptic feedback to the user, the status indicator module to display visual feedback to the user, or both.

21 . The wrist-worn wearable computing device of claim 20 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

identify a type of gesture associated with the gesture based at least in part on the movement, wherein the one or more functions are based at least in part on the type of gesture.
