WEARABLE COMPUTING DEVICE
A finger-worn wearable ring device may include a ring-shaped housing, a printed circuit board, and a sensor module that includes one or more light-emitting components and one or more light-receiving components. The wearable ring device may further include a communication module configured to wirelessly communicate with an application executable on a user device.

2 . A wearable ring device configured to be worn on a finger of a user, the wearable ring device comprising:
a housing having an interior diameter between 12 mm and 24 mm, an exterior diameter between 18 mm and 30 mm, and a thickness between 1.5 mm and 3 mm, the housing comprising:
an external housing comprising an exterior surface of the wearable ring device; and
an internal housing comprising an interior surface of the wearable ring device that is configured to contact the user when the wearable ring device is worn by the user,
wherein the external housing and the internal housing at least partially enclose a curved battery, a printed circuit board, and one or more components, and wherein the curved battery has a size and shape configured to fit within a curved portion of the housing, and
wherein the one or more components are electrically coupled with the printed circuit board and the curved battery, the one or more components comprising:
an accelerometer, a gyroscope, or both, configured to detect physical movement of the user;
one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) configured to emit visible light and one of infrared light or near-infrared light;
a first light sensor configured to detect one or more of the visible light, the infrared light, or the near-infrared light as received through the interior surface of the wearable ring device to support measurement of a heart rate and a blood oxygenation level of the user; and
a second light sensor configured to detect ambient light as received through the exterior surface of the wearable ring device.
3 . The wearable ring device of claim 2 , wherein the wearable ring device is configured to generate a current based at least in part on the ambient light, wherein the current is usable for recharging the curved battery.
4 . The wearable ring device of claim 3 , wherein the second light sensor comprises a photovoltaic cell.
5 . The wearable ring device of claim 2 , further comprising:
an optical element configured to collect the ambient light and focus the ambient light onto the second light sensor.
6 . The wearable ring device of claim 5 , wherein the optical element is configured to collect the ambient light across a field that is larger than the second light sensor.
7 . The wearable ring device of claim 2 , further comprising one or more processors that are individually or collectively configured to cause the wearable ring device to:
adjust one or more operational parameters associated with the one or more LEDs based at least in part on the ambient light.
8 . The wearable ring device of claim 7 , wherein the one or more processors are individually or collectively configured to cause the wearable ring device to:
adjust the one or more operational parameters associated with the one or more LEDs in accordance with a predetermined adjustment coefficient that is associated with the ambient light.
9 . The wearable ring device of claim 7 , wherein the one or more operational parameters comprise an intensity of the one or more of the visible light, the infrared light, or the near-infrared light, a driving current for the one or more LEDs, a voltage for the one or more LEDs, or any combination thereof.
10 . The wearable ring device of claim 2 , wherein:
the external housing comprises metallic material and has an internal surface, a first flange, and a second flange, wherein the internal surface, the first flange, and the second flange define an internal space of the external housing, and
the internal housing comprises an internal potting that at least partially fills the internal space of the external housing, wherein at least a portion of the internal potting comprises the interior surface of the wearable ring device.
11 . The wearable ring device of claim 2 , wherein the physical movement is associated with a gesture of the user, and wherein, in response to the gesture, the wearable ring device is configured to send a signal that is configured to cause an external device to perform one or more functions.
12 . The wearable ring device of claim 2 , wherein the housing has a width between 3 mm and 8 mm.
13 . A wearable ring device configured to be worn on a finger of a user, the wearable ring device comprising:
a housing having an interior diameter between 12 mm and 24 mm and an exterior diameter between 18 mm and 30 mm, the housing comprising an exterior surface of the wearable ring device and an interior surface of the wearable ring device that is configured to contact the user when the wearable ring device is worn by the user;
a curved battery having a size and shape configured to fit within a curved portion of the housing;
a printed circuit board electrically coupled with the curved battery; and
one or more components electrically coupled with the curved battery and the printed circuit board, the one or more components comprising:
an accelerometer, a gyroscope, or both, configured to detect physical movement of the user;
one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) configured to emit visible light and one of infrared light or near-infrared light; and
one or more light sensors configured to:
detect one or more of the visible light, the infrared light, or the near-infrared light received through the interior surface of the wearable ring device to support measurement of a heart rate and a blood oxygenation level of the user; and
detect ambient light associated with an environment of the user.
14 . The wearable ring device of claim 13 , wherein the wearable ring device is configured to generate a current based at least in part on the ambient light, wherein the current is usable for recharging the curved battery.
15 . The wearable ring device of claim 13 , wherein the one or more light sensors comprise:
a first light sensor configured to detect the one or more of the visible light, the infrared light, or the near-infrared light as received through the interior surface of the wearable ring device; and
a second light sensor configured to measure the ambient light as received through the exterior surface of the wearable ring device.
16 . The wearable ring device of claim 15 , further comprising:
an optical element configured to collect the ambient light and focus the ambient light onto the second light sensor.
17 . The wearable ring device of claim 13 , further comprising one or more processors that are individually or collectively configured to cause the wearable ring device to:
adjust one or more operational parameters associated with the one or more LEDs based at least in part on the ambient light.
18 . The wearable ring device of claim 17 , wherein the one or more operational parameters comprise an intensity of the one or more of the visible light, the infrared light, or the near-infrared light, a driving current for the one or more LEDs, a voltage for the one or more LEDs, or any combination thereof.
19 . The wearable ring device of claim 13 , wherein:
the housing comprises an external housing and an internal housing,
the external housing comprises metallic material and has an internal surface, a first flange, and a second flange, wherein the internal surface, the first flange, and the second flange at least partially enclose an internal space of the external housing, and the internal housing comprises an internal potting that at least partially fills the
internal space of the external housing, wherein at least a portion of the internal potting comprises the interior surface of the wearable ring device, and wherein the external housing and the internal potting together enclose the curved battery, the printed circuit board, and the one or more components within the housing.
20 . The wearable ring device of claim 13 , wherein the housing has a width between 3 mm and 8 mm, a thickness between 1.5 mm and 3 mm, or both.
21 . A wearable ring device configured to be worn on a finger of a user, the wearable ring device comprising:
a housing comprising:
an external housing comprising an exterior surface of the wearable ring device; and
an internal potting coupled with the external housing, wherein at least a portion of the internal potting comprises a transparent material that forms at least a portion of an interior surface of the wearable ring device that is configured to contact the user when the wearable ring device is worn by the user;
a curved battery having a size and shape configured to fit within a curved portion of the housing;
a printed circuit board electrically coupled with the curved battery; and
one or more components electrically coupled with the curved battery and the printed circuit board, the one or more components comprising:
an accelerometer, a gyroscope, or both, configured to detect physical movement of the user;
one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) configured to emit visible light and one of infrared light or near-infrared light;
a first light sensor configured to detect one or more of the visible light, the infrared light, or the near-infrared light as received through the interior surface of the wearable ring device to support measurement of at least one of a heart rate or a blood oxygenation level of the user; and
a second light sensor configured to detect ambient light as received through the exterior surface of the wearable ring device.
