Abstract

An apparatus for eye surgery may comprise a nozzle having a delivery lumen, an implant bay coupled to the nozzle, an implant disposed in the implant bay, and an actuator coupled to the implant bay. The actuator may comprise a housing, a plunger disposed within the housing, a bore through the plunger, a first coupling proximate to a first end of the plunger, and a second coupling integral to the housing. The bore may be fluidly coupled to the implant bay. The first coupling may be configured to receive a hydraulic driver and fluidly couple a working fluid in the hydraulic driver to the bore. A portion of the plunger may be slidingly disposed through the second coupling. In some embodiments, the second coupling may be configured to retain a drive coupling of the hydraulic driver in a fixed position relative to the housing.

Claims (31)

1 . An apparatus for eye surgery, the apparatus comprising:

a nozzle having a delivery lumen;

an implant bay coupled to the nozzle;

a housing coupled to the implant bay;

a first plunger disposed within the housing, the first plunger having a coupling; and

a bore through the first plunger;

wherein the coupling is configured to receive a hydraulic driver and fluidly couple a working fluid in the hydraulic driver to the bore, the hydraulic driver is configured to move the first plunger from a first position to a second position to advance an implant from the implant bay to the delivery lumen, and the hydraulic driver comprises a second plunger configured to move the working fluid through the bore to advance the implant through the delivery lumen.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a nozzle seal configured to be advanced into the delivery lumen to create a seal behind the implant with the first plunger in the second position.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a second coupling configured to retain the hydraulic driver in the second position.

4 . An apparatus for eye surgery, the apparatus comprising:

a nozzle having a delivery lumen;

an implant bay coupled to the nozzle; and

an actuator coupled to the implant bay, the actuator comprising:

a housing,

a plunger disposed within the housing,

a bore through the plunger,

a first coupling, and

a second coupling;

wherein the plunger is movable between a first position and a second position to advance an implant from the implant bay to the delivery lumen, the first coupling is configured to receive a hydraulic driver and fluidly couple a working fluid in the hydraulic driver to the bore in the first position, and the second coupling is configured to retain the hydraulic driver in the second position of the plunger.

5 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein:

the hydraulic driver is configured to move the plunger from the first position to the second position; and

the hydraulic driver is configured to move the working fluid through the bore to advance the implant through the delivery lumen.

6 . The apparatus of claim 5 , further comprising a nozzle seal configured to be advanced into the delivery lumen to create a seal in the delivery lumen behind the implant.

7 . An apparatus for advancing a lens with a hydraulic driver for eye surgery, the apparatus comprising:

a housing;

a plunger disposed within the housing;

an implant interface coupled to the plunger;

a nozzle seal disposed proximate to the implant interface; and

a bore passing through the plunger;

wherein the plunger is configured to fluidly couple a working fluid in the hydraulic driver to the bore, the plunger and the hydraulic driver are movable between a first position and a second position to advance the lens and the nozzle seal into a delivery lumen, and the hydraulic driver is configured to move the working fluid through the bore to advance the lens through the delivery lumen.

8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , further comprising a coupling configured to retain the plunger and the hydraulic driver in the second position with the lens and the nozzle seal in the delivery lumen.
