Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to state-based autonomous-vehicle operations. In particular, the methods, devices, and systems of the present disclosure can: determine, based at least in part on one or more actions of a passenger associated with a trip of an autonomous vehicle, a current state of the trip from amongst a plurality of different predefined states of the trip; identify, based at least in part on the current state of the trip, one or more computing devices associated with the passenger; generate, based at least in part on the current state of the trip, data describing one or more interfaces for display by the computing device(s) associated with the passenger; and communicate, to the computing device(s) associated with the passenger, the data describing the interface(s) for display.

Claims (46)

1 . (canceled)

2 . A system comprising:

at least one hardware processor; and

a memory storing instructions that when executed by the at least one hardware processor cause the system to perform operations comprising:

determining that a trip executed by an autonomous vehicle is at a state corresponding to a user exiting the autonomous vehicle;

accessing data describing a current location of the user;

determining, based on the data describing the current location of the user, that the user is located outside of the autonomous vehicle; and

responsive to determining that the user is located outside of the autonomous vehicle, initiating locomotion of the autonomous vehicle from a destination of the trip to a different location.

3 . The system of claim 2 , the operations further comprising responsive to determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, causing the autonomous vehicle to perform an action prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle.

4 . The system of claim 3 , the action prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle comprising modifying interior lighting of the autonomous vehicle.

5 . The system of claim 3 , the action prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle comprising broadcasting audio prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle.

6 . The system of claim 2 , the operations further comprising responsive to determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, instructing a user computing device associated with the user to prompt the user to exit the autonomous vehicle.

7 . The system of claim 2 , the operations further comprising receiving, from a user computing device associated with the user, an indication of a user action indicating that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, the determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle being based at least in part on the indication of the user action.

8 . The system of claim 2 , the operations further comprising:

receiving, from a user computing device associated with the user, a request to unlock a door of the autonomous vehicle; and

response to the request to unlock a door of the autonomous vehicle, causing the autonomous vehicle to unlock the door.

9 . The system of claim 2 , the operations further comprising response to the determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, causing the autonomous vehicle to unlock a door of the autonomous vehicle.

10 . The system of claim 2 , the determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle being based at least in part on at least one physical interaction between the user and the autonomous vehicle.

11 . The system of claim 10 , the operations further comprising detecting the at least one physical interaction between the user and the autonomous vehicle based at least in part on data generated by at least one of:

a door sensor of the autonomous vehicle;

a seat-pressure sensor of the autonomous vehicle;

a seatbelt sensor of the autonomous vehicle;

a camera of the autonomous vehicle located outside the autonomous vehicle;

a camera of the autonomous vehicle located inside the autonomous vehicle;

a thermal sensor of the autonomous vehicle located outside the autonomous vehicle; or

a thermal sensor of the autonomous vehicle located inside the autonomous vehicle.

12 . A method comprising:

determining, by a computing system comprising at least one hardware processor, that a trip executed by an autonomous vehicle is at a state corresponding to a user exiting the autonomous vehicle;

accessing, by the computing system, data describing a current location of the user;

determining, by the computing system and based on the data describing the current location of the user, that the user is located outside of the autonomous vehicle; and

responsive to determining that the user is located outside of the autonomous vehicle, initiating, by the computing system, locomotion of the autonomous vehicle from a destination of the trip to a different location.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising responsive to determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, causing the autonomous vehicle to perform an action prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle.

14 . The method of claim 13 , the action prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle comprising modifying interior lighting of the autonomous vehicle.

15 . The method of claim 13 , the action prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle comprising broadcasting audio prompting the user to exit the autonomous vehicle.

16 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising responsive to determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, instructing a user computing device associated with the user to prompt the user to exit the autonomous vehicle.

17 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising receiving, from a user computing device associated with the user, an indication of a user action indicating that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, the determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle being based at least in part on the indication of the user action.

18 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

receiving, from a user computing device associated with the user, a request to unlock a door of the autonomous vehicle; and

response to the request to unlock a door of the autonomous vehicle, causing the autonomous vehicle to unlock the door.

19 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising response to the determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle, causing the autonomous vehicle to unlock a door of the autonomous vehicle.

20 . The method of claim 12 , the determining that the trip executed by the autonomous vehicle is at the state corresponding to the user exiting the autonomous vehicle being based at least in part on at least one physical interaction between the user and the autonomous vehicle.

21 . At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more computers, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

determining that a trip executed by an autonomous vehicle is at a state corresponding to a user exiting the autonomous vehicle;

accessing data describing a current location of the user;

determining, based on the data describing the current location of the user, that the user is located outside of the autonomous vehicle; and

responsive to determining that the user is located outside of the autonomous vehicle, initiating locomotion of the autonomous vehicle from a destination of the trip to a different location.
