Abstract

The present disclosure provides methods, assemblies, and systems for power production that can allow for increased efficiency and lower cost components arising from the control, reduction, or elimination of turbine blade mechanical erosion by particulates or chemical erosion by gases in a combustion product flow. The methods, assemblies, and systems can include the use of turbine blades that operate with a blade velocity that is significantly reduced in relation to conventional turbines used in typical power production systems. The methods and systems also can make use of a recycled circulating fluid for transpiration protection of the turbine and/or other components. Further, recycled circulating fluid may be employed to provide cleaning materials to the turbine.

Claims (22)

1 . A turbine assembly comprising:

a casing defining an inlet in fluid communication with a combustor and configured to receive a combustion product stream; and

a plurality of blades each extending radially outwardly from a root to a tip,

wherein a flow velocity of the combustion product stream is measured proximate the inlet of the turbine assembly and downstream of the combustor,

wherein a flow density of the combustion product stream is at least 100 kilograms per cubic meter.

2 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a blade height of each of the plurality of blades is less than 0.275 m.

3 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , wherein the turbine assembly comprises less than 2,000 of the plurality of blades.

4 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where an overall length is less than 11 meters.

5 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , wherein an overall length is in a range of from 6 meters (m) to 10 m.

6 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where an average turbine diameter is in a range of from 0.25 m to 3 m.

7 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where an average blade radius is less than 1.2 m.

8 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where the flow velocity of the combustion product stream is less than 400 miles per hour.

9 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , further comprising an outlet of the casing for release of a turbine discharge stream, and a rotor positioned in the casing.

10 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where the blade velocity at the tip is in a range of from 20 meters per second (m/s) to 340 m/s.

11 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a turbine inlet pressure is at least 100 bar.

12 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a turbine inlet pressure is in a range of from 100 bar to 450 bar.

13 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a turbine outlet pressure is at least 10 bar.

14 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a turbine outlet pressure is in a range of from 10 bar to 50 bar.

15 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a ratio of a turbine inlet pressure to a turbine outlet pressure is at least 6.

16 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a ratio of a turbine inlet pressure to a turbine outlet pressure is in a range of from 6 to 15.

17 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a high temperature for high temperature combustion for the combustor is at least 1000 degrees Celsius (C).

18 . The turbine assembly of claim 1 , where a high temperature for high temperature combustion for the combustor is in a range of from 1200° C. to 3000° C.
