Abstract

An apparatus forms a module. The apparatus includes a housing configured to load the module through a front end of a panel. The apparatus includes a connector cluster. The apparatus includes a set of tabs corresponding to a set of securing members that secure the module to a panel.

Claims (49)

1 . An apparatus comprising a module, the module comprising:

a housing configured to load the module through a front end of a panel, the housing comprising:

sides and a bottom that extend between a front end and a rear end of the housing;

a connector cluster positioned at the front end of the housing and removably retained between the walls; and

a strain relief positioned at a rear end of the module and configured to be coupled to a trunk cable.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a panel having a set of slots configured to receive a set of modules, including the module, wherein:

the module is configured to extend between a front end of the panel and a rear end of the panel; and

the module is configured to be one of a set of up to twelve modules horizontally juxtaposed within the panel.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the module further comprises:

a reversible polarity based on an orientation of the module with respect to the panel.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the connector cluster comprises up to sixteen LC couplers, within a 1 U height.

5 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the apparatus further comprises a panel, the panel comprising a set of up to twelve modules including the module, such that the panel comprises up to 192 LC couplers, within the 1 U height.

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the connector cluster comprises up to eight MPO couplers, within a 1 U height.

7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the apparatus further comprises a panel, the panel comprising a set of up to twelve modules including the module, such that the panel comprises up to 96 MPO couplers providing up to 3456 fiber connections, within the 1 U height.

8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the connector cluster comprises up to four ethernet couplers, within a 1 U height.

9 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the apparatus further comprises a panel, the panel comprising a set of up to twelve modules including the module, such that the panel comprises up to 48 ethernet couplers, within the 1 U height.

10 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the housing of the module further comprises:

a set of inversely shaped guides recessed into the sides of the housing at the front end, wherein the connector cluster is removably retained between the walls within the set of inversely shaped guides; and

a set of tabs extending from the sides of the housing at the front end and corresponding to a set of securing members that secure the module to a faceplate of a panel.

11 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a slack housing configured to fit within the housing of the module, the slack housing comprising:

a lower compartment, the lower compartment comprising a lower hole for ingress of the trunk cable

an upper compartment, connected to the lower compartment by an opening, the upper compartment comprising upper hole for egress of a front cable that is coupled to the connector cluster.

12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the slack housing is further configured to hold slack cable and a splice of the front cable with the trunk cable.

13 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the housing of the module further comprises:

a plurality of openings in the housing configured to provide access to cables within the module.

14 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the housing of the module further comprises:

an upper housing having a first recess configured to receive a spring clip of a panel to secure the module within a slot of the panel; and

a lower housing having a second recess configured to receive the spring clip when the module is inserted to the panel with an opposite polarity compared to the first recess.

15 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein:

the upper housing further comprises a first button configured to mechanically connect to the spring clip and release the module from the panel; and

the lower housing further comprises a second button configured to mechanically connect to the spring clip and release the module when the module is inserted to the panel with an opposite polarity compared to the first recess.

16 . A method comprising:

installing a trunk cable to a module, wherein the module comprises:

a housing configured to load the module through a front end of a panel, the housing comprising sides and a bottom that extend between a front end and a rear end of the housing;

a connector cluster positioned at the front end of the housing and removably retained between the walls; and

a strain relief positioned at a rear end of the module and configured to be coupled to a trunk cable; and

fitting the module to the panel through one of a front of the panel and a rear of the panel.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the module further comprises:

a reversible polarity based on an orientation of the module with respect to the panel.

18 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising:

inserting the module into a panel; wherein the housing further comprises:

an upper housing having a first recess configured to receive a spring clip of a panel to secure the module within a slot of the panel providing a first polarity; and

a lower housing having a second recess configured to receive the spring clip to secure the module within a slot of the panel providing a second polarity that is opposite of the first polarity; and

securing the module within a slot of the panel via the spring clip.

19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

when the module is inserted to provide the first polarity, releasing the module from the panel when a first button on the upper housing is pressed.

20 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

when the module is inserted to provide the second polarity, releasing the module from the panel when a second button on the lower housing is pressed.
