METHODS OF USING BASE STATIONS CONFIGURED TO RECEIVE UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES
A method of using a base station that is configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The method includes applying a lateral tension and an axial tension to a drive member that is operatively connected to alignment members on a landing platform to thereby reconfigure the landing platform and reposition the UAV and actuating a motor assembly to thereby advance and retract the drive member.
1 . A method of using a base station configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), wherein the method comprises:
applying a lateral tension to a drive member operatively connected to alignment members on a landing platform of the base station such that movement of the drive member causes corresponding movement of the alignment members to thereby reconfigure the landing platform and reposition the UAV on the landing platform;
applying an axial tension to the drive member; and
actuating a motor assembly to thereby advance and retract the drive member.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein applying the lateral tension to the drive member includes applying a lateral force to the drive member via a first pulley assembly.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein applying the lateral force to the drive member includes applying the lateral force in a direction generally orthogonal in relation to a length of the drive member.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein applying the lateral force to the drive member includes biasing first pulleys towards each other.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein biasing the first pulleys towards each other includes applying the lateral force to pulley shafts supporting the first pulleys.
6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein actuating the motor assembly includes rotating the first pulleys about movable axes of rotation.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein applying the axial tension to the drive member includes applying an axial force to the drive member via a second pulley assembly including a first bracket and a second bracket.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein applying the axial force to the drive member includes applying the axial force in a direction generally parallel in relation to a length of the drive member.
9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein applying the axial force to the drive member includes moving the second bracket axially in relation to the first bracket.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein moving the second bracket axially in relation to the first bracket includes rotating an adjustment member extending between the first bracket and the second bracket.
11 . A method of using a base station configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), wherein the method comprises:
applying a lateral tension to a drive member extending internally within the base station;
applying an axial tension to the drive member; and
moving the drive member to reposition alignment members operatively connected thereto to thereby reposition the UAV on a landing platform of the base station.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein applying the lateral tension to the drive member includes biasing first pulleys into engagement with the drive member.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein biasing the first pulleys into engagement with the drive member includes applying a biasing force to pulleys shafts connected to the first pulleys.
14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein applying the axial tension to the drive member includes approximating a first bracket and a second bracket.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein approximating the first bracket and the second bracket includes rotating an adjustment member extending therebetween.
16 . A method of using a base station configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), wherein the method comprises:
moving a drive member to reposition alignment members and generally align a power source on the UAV with a charging hub of the base station;
