Abstract

A roaming network interface system receives an indication that a user device using a first network is to transition to a second network. The roaming network interface system determines whether the second network implements an interface between a mobility management entity and an access management function based on the received indication. The roaming network interface system provides instructions to the user device to transition from the first network to the second network based on the determination of whether the second network implements the interface.

Claims (65)

1 . A method in a user device, the method comprising:

detecting a signal strength for a signal provided to the user device by a first network to which the user device is currently connected;

detecting a signal strength of a second network;

determining whether the signal strength of the second network is greater than the signal strength of the first network;

based on a determination that the signal strength of the second network is greater than the signal strength of the first network, transmitting an indication to a roaming network interface system that the user device is to transition to the second network from the first network;

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, instructions regarding the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network; and

causing, based on the received instructions, the user device to transition from the first network to the second network.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the instructions further comprises:

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, an indication of an interface implemented on the second network to transition the user device between a mobility management entity (MME) and an access and mobility management function (AMF); and

transitioning, based on the indication of the interface, the user device from the first network to the second network.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the interface is an N26 interface.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, an indication that an error has occurred during the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network; and

indicating, to a user of the user device, that an error has occurred during the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:

detecting a third network which is a roaming network for the user device;

detecting a signal strength of the third network; and

transmitting an indication of the third network to the roaming network interface system.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, an indication that an error has occurred during the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network; and

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, instructions to connect to the second network without the interface.

7 . A system connected to a first network, the system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one memory coupled to the at least one processor, the memory having computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

detect a signal strength for a signal provided to the system by the first network;

detect a signal strength of a second network;

determine whether the signal strength of the second network is greater than the signal strength of the first network;

based on a determination that the signal strength of the second network is greater than the signal strength of the first network, transmit an indication to a roaming network interface system that the system is to transition to the second network from the first network;

receive, from the roaming network interface system, commands regarding the transition of the system from the first network to the second network; and

cause, based on the received commands, the system to transition from the first network to the second network.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein to receive the commands, the computer-executable instructions further cause the system to:

receive, from the roaming network interface system, an indication of an interface implemented on the second network to transition the system between a mobility management entity (MME) and an access and mobility management function (AMF); and

transitioning, based on the indication of the interface, the system from the first network to the second network.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the interface is an N26 interface.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the system to:

receive, from the roaming network interface system, an indication that an error has occurred during the transition of the system from the first network to the second network; and

indicate, to a user of the system, that an error has occurred during the transition of the system from the first network to the second network.

11 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the system to:

detect a third network which is a roaming network for the system;

detect a signal strength of the third network; and

transmit an indication of the third network to the roaming network interface system.

12 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the system to:

receive, from the roaming network interface system, an indication that an error has occurred during the transition of the system from the first network to the second network; and

receive, from the roaming network interface system, instructions to connect to the second network without the interface.

13 . A non-transitory processor-readable storage medium that stores at least one of instructions or data, the instructions or data, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform a method comprising:

detecting a signal strength for a signal provided to the user device by a first network to which the user device is currently connected;

detecting a signal strength of a second network;

determining whether the signal strength of the second network is greater than the signal strength of the first network;

based on a determination that the signal strength of the second network is greater than the signal strength of the first network, transmitting an indication to a roaming network interface system that the user device is to transition to the second network from the first network;

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, instructions regarding the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network; and

causing, based on the received instructions, the user device to transition from the first network to the second network.

14 . The non-transitory processor-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein receiving the instructions further comprises:

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, an indication of an interface implemented on the second network to transition the user device between a mobility management entity (MME) and an access and mobility management function (AMF); and

transitioning, based on the indication of the interface, the user device from the first network to the second network.

15 . The non-transitory processor-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the interface is an N26 interface.

16 . The non-transitory processor-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, an indication that an error has occurred during the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network; and

indicating, to a user of the user device, that an error has occurred during the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network.

17 . The non-transitory processor-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the method further comprises:

detecting a third network which is a roaming network for the user device;

detecting a signal strength of the third network; and

transmitting an indication of the third network to the roaming network interface system.

18 . The non-transitory processor-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, an indication that an error has occurred during the transition of the user device from the first network to the second network; and

receiving, from the roaming network interface system, instructions to connect to the second network without the interface.
