Abstract

The invention provides a method of reducing anxiety and/or depression in a subject comprising periodically administering to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of pridopidine effective to reduce anxiety and/or depression in a subject.

Claims (10)

1 . A method of reducing depression in a subject with a depressive disorder comprising administering to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of pridopidine or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; wherein the depressive disorder is major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, substance/medication-induced depressive disorder, perinatal depression, peripartum-onset depression, seasonal affective disorder, or psychotic depression.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the depression is reduced by at least one unit.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the depression is measured by Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Hopelessness Scale, Centre for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D), Patient Health Questionnaire, Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children (CES-DC), Clinically Useful Depression Outcome Scale, Diagnostic Inventory for Depression, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Kutcher Adolescent Depression Scale (KADS), Major Depression Inventory (MDI), Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (MFQ), Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale, forced swim test, or Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia (CSDD).

The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is experiencing at least one symptom of depression, and wherein the at least one symptom of depression comprises depressed mood, anhedonia, low energy levels, feelings of guilt, psychomotor retardation, agitation, suicidal ideations poor concentration and indecisiveness, or any combination thereof.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein between 22.5-315 mg pridopidine or corresponding amount of its pharmaceutically acceptable salt is administered to the subject per day.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the unit dose is administered once daily, or more than once daily.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the unit dose is administered twice per day.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the administration is oral.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the pridopidine is in the form of pridopidine hydrochloride.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the depression is reduced for at least 12 months.
