Abstract

A control module adapted to be attached to a power adapter is described. The control module may comprise a front housing; a rear housing coupled to the front housing; a latch element moveably coupled to at least one of the front housing and the rear housing, wherein the latching element is adapted to rotate with respect to the front housing and the rear housing; and contact elements extending from the rear housing.

Claims (34)

1 . A control module adapted to be attached to a power adapter, the control module comprising:

a front housing;

a rear housing coupled to the front housing;

a latch element moveably coupled to at least one of the front housing and the rear housing, wherein the latching element is adapted to rotate with respect to the front housing and the rear housing; and

contact elements extending from the rear housing.

2 . The control module of claim 1 , wherein an opening of the latch element aligns with an opening of the front housing to receive a latch element of the power adapter.

3 . The control module of claim 2 , wherein the latch comprises a channel for receiving the latch element of the power adapter.

4 . The control module of claim 1 , further comprising a grip portion that is exposed when the latch element is rotated with respect to the front housing and the rear housing.

5 . The control module of claim 1 , wherein the rear housing further comprises an actuator for engaging a tamper resistant element of a power adapter.

6 . The control module of claim 1 , wherein the rear housing further comprises an actuator for engaging a connector of a power adapter.

7 . The control module of claim 1 , further comprising a power adapter, wherein the latch element is attached to a corresponding latch element of the power adapter.

8 . A control module adapted to be attached to a power adapter, the control module comprising:

a front housing;

a rear housing coupled to the front housing;

a latch element moveably coupled to at least one of the front housing and the rear housing, wherein the latching element is adapted to move with respect to the front housing;

a plurality of openings adapted to receive prongs of a plug;

a tamper resistant element within the front housing and adapted to move when prongs of the plug are inserted into the front housing; and

contact elements extending from the rear housing.

9 . The control module of claim 8 , wherein an opening of the latch element aligns with an opening of the front housing to receive a latch element of the power adapter.

10 . The control module of claim 9 , wherein the latch comprises a channel for receiving the latch element of the power adapter.

11 . The control module of claim 8 , further comprising a grip portion that is exposed when the latch element is rotated with respect to the front housing and the rear housing.

12 . The control module of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the front housing and the rear housing further comprises an actuator for engaging a tamper resistant element of a power adapter.

13 . The control module of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the front housing and the rear housing further comprises an actuator for engaging a connector of a power adapter.

14 . A method of attaching a control module to a power adapter, the control module comprising:

providing a front housing;

couple a rear housing to the front housing;

moveably coupling a latch element to at least one of the front housing and the rear housing, wherein the latching element is adapted to rotate with respect to the front housing and the rear housing; and

providing contact elements that extends from the rear housing.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing an opening of the latch element that aligns with an opening of the front housing to receive a corresponding latch element of the power adapter.

16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising providing a channel for the latch element for receiving the corresponding latch element of the power adapter.

17 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing a grip portion that is exposed when the latch element is rotated with respect to the front housing and the rear housing.

18 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing an actuator on the rear housing for engaging a tamper resistant element of a power adapter.

19 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing a rear housing comprising an actuator for engaging a connector of a power adapter.

20 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising coupling the latch element of the control module to a corresponding latch element of the power adapter.
