Abstract

The disclosure refers to a photosensitive pixel structure that includes a substrate layer and an interface layer. The interface layer is provided at least partially on a first surface of the substrate layer and the interface layer at least partially includes a first material layer and the interface layer at least partially includes a second material layer covering the first material layer such that the first material layer is at least partially sandwiched between the second material layer and the substrate. The disclosure further refers to an array and an implant that includes a pixel structure and a method for providing a pixel structure.

Claims (29)

1 . A system comprising:

a retinal implant, wherein the retinal implant comprises:

a photosensitive pixel structure comprising:

a substrate layer that includes a front surface;

a set of stimulating electrodes disposed on the front surface of the substrate layer; and

an interface layer provided at least on a part of the front surface of the substrate layer, wherein the interface layer comprises a front facing layer of the retinal implant.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the interface layer reduces reflection of incident light from the substrate layer.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the interface layer increases transmission of incident light through the interface layer to the substrate layer.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the interface layer comprises a first material layer and a second material layer at least partially covering the first material layer.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the first material layer is at least partially sandwiched between the second material layer and the substrate.

6 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the first material layer comprises an oxide layer.

7 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the second material layer comprises a ceramic or a ceramic-like material layer.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the retinal implant is a subretinal implant.

9 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising goggles, wherein the goggles project a light pulse signal onto the interface layer.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the goggles further comprise a camera, wherein the light pulse signal is determined based on scene content received by the camera.

11 . A system comprising:

a retinal implant, wherein the retinal implant comprises:

a substrate layer comprising a set of photosensitive diodes, wherein the substrate layer includes a front surface;

a set of stimulating electrodes disposed on the front surface of the substrate layer; and

an interface layer provided at least on a part of the front surface of the substrate layer, wherein incident light is transmitted through the interface layer to the substrate layer.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the interface layer increases transmission of the incident light such that absorption of the incident light by the substrate layer is increased.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the interface layer comprises an anti-reflective layer.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the substrate layer comprises trenches between photosensitive diodes of the set of photosensitive diodes, wherein the trenches comprises an electrically isolating material.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein a material layer is provided at least on a part of a back surface of the substrate, wherein the material layer comprises a reflective layer.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the set of photosensitive diodes are arranged in an array.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the array comprises a hexagonal array, wherein each hexagon of the hexagonal array comprises a pair of photosensitive diodes of the set of photosensitive diodes.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the retinal implant is a subretinal implant.

19 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising goggles, wherein the goggles project a light pulse signal, wherein the incident light comprises the light pulse signal.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the goggles further comprise a camera, wherein the light pulse signal is determined based on scene content received by the camera.
