Abstract

A method of monitoring hierarchical asset groups includes the operations of: receiving a plurality of asset group configuration parameters comprising one or more association specifications, each association specification defining an association between an asset and a corresponding asset group of a plurality of asset groups of an asset hierarchy; receiving definitions of one or more asset group metrics, wherein each asset group metric of the one or more asset group metrics is derived from a search of machine data associated with a corresponding asset group; associating, with each asset group of the plurality of asset groups, a corresponding asset group metric of the one or more asset group metrics; generating one or more alert definitions associated with an asset group of the plurality of asset groups; monitoring, using the one or more asset group metrics, the asset hierarchy; and generating an alert based on the one or more alert definitions.

Claims (31)

1 . A method performed by one or more processing devices, the method comprising:

causing display of a user interface for managing an asset group, wherein the user interface comprises:

a set of assets associated with the asset group, the asset group associating a plurality of assets of an asset hierarchy as a group, and

a set of group metrics associated with the asset group, wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is derived from a search of machine data associated with the asset group, and wherein at least a portion of the assets associated with the asset group correspond with different group metrics of the set of group metrics.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface for managing the asset group is displayed based on a selection of an indication of the asset group.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of group metrics are displayed in a tabular format with a plurality of columns providing identifying information corresponding to each group metric of the set of group metrics.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with an occurrence of a corresponding group metric relative to a total number of assets in the set of assets.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a proportion of assets of the set of assets configurated with the corresponding group metric.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a visual representation indicating a value of assets of the set of assets configured with the corresponding group metric.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a count of assets of the set of assets configured with the corresponding group metric.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a toggle action element that, upon selection, causes the corresponding group metric to be replicated across at least one other asset of the set of assets associated with the asset group.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with one or more selectable actions for an advanced configuration for the corresponding group metric.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a selectable action that, upon selection, causes performance of a group action, an ungroup action, a join action, a disjoin action, a generate action, an analyze action, a delete action, or a combination thereof.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a selectable action, and wherein when the selectable action is selected, a new user interface is presented including information association with the selectable action.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a selectable action comprising a join action, and wherein when the join action is selected, a joint group metric is created that combines disparate group metrics into a single group metric.

13 . A system comprising:

a memory; and

one or more processing devices coupled with the memory, the one or more processing devices configured to:

cause display of a user interface for managing an asset group, wherein the user interface comprises:

a set of assets associated with the asset group, the asset group associating a plurality of assets of an asset hierarchy as a group, and

a set of group metrics associated with the asset group, wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is derived from a search of machine data associated with the asset group, and wherein at least a portion of the assets associated with the asset group correspond with different group metrics of the set of group metrics.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the user interface for managing the asset group is displayed based on a selection of an indication of the asset group.

15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the set of group metrics are displayed in a tabular format with a plurality of columns providing identifying information corresponding to each group metric of the set of group metrics.

16 . The system of claim 13 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with an occurrence of a corresponding group metric relative to a total number of assets in the set of assets.

17 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium encoding executable instructions thereon that, in response to execution by one or more processing devices, cause the one or more processing devices to:

cause display of a user interface for managing an asset group, wherein the user interface comprises:

a set of assets associated with the asset group, the asset group associating a plurality of assets of an asset hierarchy as a group, and

a set of group metrics associated with the asset group, wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is derived from a search of machine data associated with the asset group, and wherein at least a portion of the assets associated with the asset group correspond with different group metrics of the set of group metrics.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein each group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with one or more selectable actions for an advanced configuration for the corresponding group metric.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein at least one group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a selectable action that, upon selection, causes performance of a group action, an ungroup action, a join action, a disjoin action, a generate action, an analyze action, a delete action, or a combination thereof.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein a group metric of the set of group metrics is displayed in association with a selectable action comprising a join action, and wherein when the join action is selected, a joint group metric is created that combines disparate group metrics into a single group metric.
