Abstract

The present invention pertains to a projector device for projecting a light beam onto a retina of a human eye, comprising a projector for projecting a light beam from the exterior of a human eye through a pupil of the eye, wherein the projector is configured such that an exit pupil diameter of the light beam is set smaller than an eye pupil diameter of the eye, a corresponding method, and a device comprising such a projector device.

Claims (27)

1 . A system, comprising: a projector configured to project a light beam from the exterior of an eye through a pupil and onto a retinal implant of the eye, wherein the projector comprises:

a sensor unit that receives a set of measurements of the eye; and

an adjustment unit that adjusts an exit pupil of the light beam based on the measurements of the eye; and

an alignment device that aligns a central axis of the light beam with a viewing axis defined by an axis passing through a center of the eye pupil and a center of a retinal implant of the eye.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the set of measurements of the eye comprises a set of measurements of the pupil of the eye.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment unit adjusts the exit pupil of the light beam such that an entirety of the light beam passes through the eye and is directed onto the retinal implant.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor unit comprises an eye tracking device.

5 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a spectacles frame, wherein the projector device is fixed to the spectacles frame.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the alignment device comprises a locking unit for locking or releasing movement with respect to the spectacles frame.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the projector device comprises a micromirror array, wherein the light beam is based on patterning of incident light directed onto the micromirror array.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the projector further comprises a total internal reflection prism.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the projector comprises a laser.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the alignment device is configured to align the central axis of the light beam with the viewing axis such that a maximum deviation between the central axis of the light beam and the viewing axis is less than or equal to 1°.

11 . The system of claim 1 , the alignment device is configured to align the central axis of the light beam with the viewing axis such that a maximum deviation between the central axis of the light beam and the center of the eye pupil is less than or equal to 1 mm.

12 . A method, comprising:

projecting a light beam from the exterior of an eye through a pupil of the eye and onto a retinal implant of the eye;

aligning a central axis of the light beam such that the central axis of the light beam passes through a pupil of the eye;

receiving a set of measurements of the eye from a sensor unit; and

adjusting an exit pupil of the light beam based on the measurements of the eye such that an entirety of the light beam passes through the pupil of the eye and is directed onto the retinal implant.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising patterning light to produce the light beam.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving an image from a camera, wherein the light is patterned based on the image.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the light is patterned using a micromirror array.

16 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the set of measurements of the eye comprises a set of measurements of the pupil of the eye.

17 . The method of claim 12 , wherein adjusting the exit pupil of the light beam comprises adjusting a diameter of the exit pupil of the light beam.

18 . The method of claim 12 , wherein aligning the central axis of the light beam comprises aligning the central axis of the light beam with a viewing axis defined by an axis passing through a center of the eye pupil and a center of a retinal implant of the eye.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the alignment device is configured to align the central axis of the light beam with the viewing axis such that a maximum deviation between the central axis of the light beam and the viewing axis is less than or equal to 1°.

20 . The method of claim 12 , the alignment device is configured to align the central axis of the light beam such that a maximum deviation between the central axis of the light beam and a center of the eye pupil that is less than or equal to 1 mm.
