Abstract

A gaming system provides for enhanced player interaction through a rotatable wheel and an associated annular rotatable bezel. An electronic controller detects player input influencing the bezel's rotational state. In response to this input, the controller manages a synchronized interactive behavior involving both the bezel and the wheel. For instance, this management can include the controller coordinating forces or motions applied to both elements, potentially through respective motors, to create various interactive experiences. The system allows for dynamically controlled interactions, achieving coordinated responses between the bezel and the wheel of the gaming machine.

Claims (30)

1 . A method comprising:

detecting, via an electronic controller, a player input influencing a rotational state of an annular rotatable bezel, the bezel being operatively associated with a rotatable wheel of a gaming machine, the bezel and wheel each being selectively connectable by an electronic controller; and

coordinating, via the electronic controller in response to detecting the player input, a synchronized interactive behavior between the bezel and the wheel.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the bezel and wheel are selectively connectable to a respective motor, and wherein the controlling the synchronized interactive behavior comprises modulating the respective motors to concurrently control forces or motions applied to both the bezel and the wheel.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the synchronized interactive behavior includes a synchronized deceleration of both the bezel and the wheel to a target wheel position.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the synchronized deceleration is according to a predetermined deceleration profile.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the synchronized interactive behavior includes an application of a controlled resistive force to the bezel dynamically related to a current motion characteristic of the wheel.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the controlled resistive force simulates a perceived weight of the bezel.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the synchronized interactive behavior includes a synchronized driving of both the bezel and the wheel in a coordinated multi-directional sequence.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the coordinated multi-directional sequence includes driving the bezel and wheel in a direction opposite to a direction of the player input.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the controlling the synchronized interactive behavior comprises utilizing a two-motor control loop arrangement where a bezel motor control loop and a wheel motor control loop are logically coupled.

10 . A system comprising:

an annular rotatable bezel operatively associated with a rotatable wheel of a gaming machine; and

an electronic controller communicatively coupled to the bezel and the wheel, wherein the electronic controller is configured to execute instructions which, when executed, cause the system to perform operations to:

detect a player input influencing a rotational state of the annular rotatable bezel; and

in response to the detected player input, coordinate, by the electronic controller, a synchronized interactive behavior between the bezel and the wheel.

11 . The system of claim 10 further comprising:

a first motor selectively connectable to the bezel;

a second motor selectively connectable to the wheel; and

wherein the electronic controller is configured to execute instructions which, when executed, cause the system to actively modulate the first and second motors to coordinate the synchronized interactive behavior.

12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the electronic controller is further configured to cause the system to perform operations to coordinate the synchronized interactive behavior via synchronous deceleration of both the bezel and the wheel to a target wheel position.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the electronic controller is further configured to perform the synchronous deceleration according to a predetermined deceleration profile.

The system of claim 10 , wherein the electronic controller is further configured to cause the system to perform operations wherein the synchronized interactive behavior includes operations to apply a controlled resistive force to the bezel dynamically related to a current motion characteristic of the wheel.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the controlled resistive force simulates a perceived weight of the bezel.

16 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the electronic controller is further configured to cause the system to perform operations wherein the synchronized interactive behavior includes to synchronously drive both the bezel and the wheel in a coordinated multi-directional sequence.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the electronic controller is further configured to perform the synchronous driving by driving the bezel and wheel in a direction opposite to a direction of the player input.

The system of claim 10 , wherein the electronic controller is configured to actively coordinate by utilizing a two-motor control loop arrangement where a bezel motor control loop, if a first motor is present and coupled, and a wheel motor control loop, if a second motor is present and coupled, are logically coupled.

19 . One or more non-transitory, machine readable mediums having instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by one or more electronic processors, cause a gaming machine to perform operations comprising:

detecting a manual player input influencing a rotational state of an annular rotatable bezel, the bezel being operatively associated with a rotatable wheel of the gaming machine, the bezel and wheel each being selectively connectable to a respective motor; and

in response to the detected player input, modulating the respective motors to both the bezel and the wheel to achieve a pre-defined, synchronized interactive behavior between the bezel and the wheel.
