Abstract

An embodiment of a medical product storage device including an enclosure at least partially defined by a door and a plurality of drawer assemblies positioned in the enclosure. Each of the plurality of drawer assemblies defining a respective compartment within the enclosure. In addition, each of the plurality of drawer assemblies includes a plurality of storage containers positioned within the compartment; and a plurality of actuators that are coupled to a back end of the drawer assembly that is spaced from the door such that each of the plurality of actuators is configured to selectively secure or release a respective storage container of the plurality of storage containers relative to the compartment, and such that the drawer assembly is configured to be removed from the enclosure as a unit with the plurality of actuators.

Claims (42)

1 . A method for electronic management of a product storage device, wherein the product storage device comprises an enclosure at least partially defined by a door, a plurality of drawer assemblies positioned in the enclosure, and a camera, the method comprising:

capturing a video feed of an individual attempting to access a drawer assembly of the plurality of drawer assemblies; and

determining whether or not to grant access to the drawer assembly by the individual via a review of the video feed.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether or not to grant access to the drawer assembly by the individual via a review of the video feed comprises:

transmitting the video feed of the individual attempting to access the drawer assembly to an authorizing entity, wherein access to the drawer assembly is determined by the authorizing entity.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

initiating two way communication between the individual and the authorizing entity.

4 . The method of claim 2 further comprising:

unlocking the drawer assembly upon receipt of a signal from the authorizing entity.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the transmitted video feed includes an image.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

recording the video feed to provide a history of attempts to access the plurality of drawer assemblies.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting a radio frequency ID (RFID) badge associated with the individual; and

sensing a biometric characteristic of the individual.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the biometric characteristic of the individual includes a voice characteristic, a face characteristic, a retinal characteristic, or a fingerprint of the individual.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

confirming that the biometric characteristic of the individual matches a biometric characteristic tied to the RFID badge.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the product storage device comprises one or more near field communication (NFC) transceivers.

11 . A system for electronic management of a product storage device comprising:

an enclosure at least partially defined by a door;

a plurality of drawer assemblies positioned in the enclosure;

a camera; and

a control circuitry, the control circuitry configured to:

capture a video feed of an individual attempting to access a drawer assembly of the plurality of drawer assemblies; and

determine whether or not to grant access to the drawer assembly by the individual via review of the video feed.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein determining whether or not to grant access to the drawer assembly by the individual via review of the video feed comprises:

transmitting the video feed of the individual attempting to access the drawer assembly to an authorizing entity, wherein access to the drawer assembly is determined by the authorizing entity.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

initiate two way communication between the individual and the authorizing entity.

14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

unlock the drawer assembly upon receipt of a signal from the authorizing entity.

15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the transmitted video feed includes an image.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

record the video feed to provide a history of attempts to access the plurality of drawer assemblies.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

detect a radio frequency ID (RFID) badge associated with the individual; and

sense a biometric characteristic of the individual.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the biometric characteristic of the individual includes a voice characteristic, a face characteristic, a retinal characteristic, or a fingerprint of the individual.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

confirm that the biometric characteristic of the individual matches a biometric characteristic tied to the RFID badge.

20 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the product storage device comprises one or more near field communication (NFC) transceivers.
