Abstract

A system and method to facilitate the analysis of long-term scalp EEG recordings and the investigation of underlying epileptogenicity. Pathological high frequency oscillations are identified and extracted from the EEG recordings and electrophysiological source imaging is used to reconstruct cortical activity, which can be used as an aid in surgical resection for the treatment of epilepsy.

Claims (11)

1 . A method of electrophysiological source imaging, the method comprising:

obtaining EEG data recorded from a plurality of channels, wherein the EEG data comprises a measured signal and noise;

detecting frequency events in the EEG data;

identifying pathological high frequency oscillations within the frequency events;

extracting segments related to the pathological high frequency oscillations from the EEG data, thereby isolating the measured signal from the noise;

estimating the neural electrical activity by projecting the scalp EEG measurements.

2 . A method of source imaging high frequency oscillations comprising:

obtaining scalp-recorded EEG data;

identifying pathological high frequency oscillations in the EEG data; and

projecting the pathological high frequency oscillations onto a cortex space.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the high frequency oscillations are associated with epileptic brain activity.
