Abstract

Techniques disclosed herein relate to managing operations of a dual-mode insulin delivery device that can operate in a manual insulin delivery mode and an automated closed-loop insulin delivery mode. In one example, a processor-implemented method includes obtaining insulin delivery data of an insulin delivery device collected while the insulin delivery device operates in a closed-loop mode, determining an updated value of a parameter of the insulin delivery device in a manual mode based on the insulin delivery data, and causing the insulin delivery device to deliver insulin in the manual mode based on the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device, where the parameter of the insulin delivery device has separate values in the manual mode and the closed-loop mode.

Claims (76)

1 . A processor-implemented method comprising:

obtaining insulin delivery data of an insulin delivery device collected while the insulin delivery device operates in a closed-loop mode;

determining, based on the insulin delivery data, an updated value of a parameter of the insulin delivery device in a manual mode, wherein the parameter of the insulin delivery device has separate values in the manual mode and the closed-loop mode; and

causing the insulin delivery device to deliver insulin in the manual mode based on the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device.

2 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising, before determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode, causing the insulin delivery device to deliver insulin in the manual mode based on a pre-determined value or time-based value profile of the parameter of the insulin delivery device.

3 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode includes a time-based value profile that defines a plurality of values of the parameter corresponding to a plurality of time segments of a day.

4 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the parameter of the insulin delivery device is a basal delivery rate.

5 . The processor-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein:

the insulin delivery data is indicative of a total daily dose (TDD) of insulin for a user; and

determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode includes determining an updated value of the basal delivery rate in the manual mode based on the TDD of insulin.

6 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the parameter of the insulin delivery device is an insulin sensitivity factor (ISF).

7 . The processor-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein:

the insulin delivery data is indicative of a total daily dose (TDD) of insulin for a user; and

determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode includes determining an updated value of the ISF in the manual mode based on the TDD of insulin.

8 . The processor-implemented method of claim 7 , wherein:

the TDD of insulin is an average TDD of insulin; and

the updated value of the ISF is determined in accordance with an expression

where X is a constant or a variable.

9 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the parameter of the insulin delivery device is an insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio (carb ratio).

10 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

obtaining insulin delivery data of a second insulin delivery device collected while the second insulin delivery device operates in the closed-loop mode,

wherein determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode includes determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode based on the insulin delivery data of the insulin delivery device and the insulin delivery data of the second insulin delivery device.

11 . A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable storage media operatively coupled with the one or more processors, the one or more processor-readable storage media storing executable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of operations comprising:

obtaining insulin delivery data of an insulin delivery device collected while the insulin delivery device operates in a closed-loop mode;

determining, based on the insulin delivery data, an updated value of a parameter of the insulin delivery device in a manual mode, wherein the parameter of the insulin delivery device has separate values in the manual mode and the closed-loop mode; and

causing the insulin delivery device to deliver insulin in the manual mode based on the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise, before determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode, causing the insulin delivery device to deliver insulin in the manual mode based on a pre-determined value or time-based value profile of the parameter of the insulin delivery device.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode includes a time-based value profile that defines a plurality of values of the parameter corresponding to a plurality of time segments of a day.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the parameter of the insulin delivery device is a basal delivery rate.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein:

the insulin delivery data is indicative of a total daily dose (TDD) of insulin for a user; and

determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode includes determining an updated value of the basal delivery rate in the manual mode based on the TDD of insulin.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the parameter of the insulin delivery device is an insulin sensitivity factor (ISF).

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein:

the insulin delivery data is indicative of a total daily dose (TDD) of insulin for a user; and

determining the updated value of the parameter of the insulin delivery device in the manual mode includes determining an updated value of the ISF in the manual mode based on the TDD of insulin.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein:

the TDD of insulin is an average TDD of insulin; and

the updated value of the ISF is determined in accordance with an expression
