Abstract

The present disclosure relates generally to gaming systems that are capable of providing improved game functionality using locking links and a lock function that can be automatically performed in an electronic game during game play. The locking links and a lock function can increase player engagement and can lead to increased play of the gaming machine.

Claims (40)

1 . A gaming system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled with and readable by the processor and storing therein a set of instructions which, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to:

operate a first feature of an electronic game;

operate a second feature of the electronic game independent of the first feature, wherein the first feature and the second feature comprise visual elements involved in representing play of the electronic game;

operate a third feature of the electronic game independent of the first feature and the second feature, wherein the first feature and the second feature are non-adjacent on the gaming system, wherein the third feature is disposed between the first feature and the second feature on the gaming system, and wherein the third feature comprises a visual indication of a symbol of interest in the electronic game;

detect a position of a first indication of a locking function, wherein operating the first feature comprises presenting the first indication of the locking function at the detected position;

detect a position of a second indication of the locking function, wherein operating the second feature comprises presenting the second indication of the locking function at the detected position;

detect while the third feature is still operating, the symbol of interest at a position through which a line between the position of the first indication of the lock function and the position of the second indication of the lock function passes; and

in response to detecting the symbol of interest at the position through which the line between the position of the first indication of the lock function and the position of the second indication of the lock function passes, stop operation of the third feature.

2 . The gaming system of claim 1 , further comprising a display device coupled with the processor, wherein the first feature and the second feature are elements of the electronic game displayed on the display device.

3 . The gaming system of claim 2 , wherein presenting the first indication of the locking function and the second indication of the locking function further comprises displaying a graphical representation of a line between the first indication and the second indication.

4 . The gaming system of claim 2 , wherein presenting the first indication of the locking function and the second indication of the locking function further comprises displaying a graphical representation of a net between the first indication and the second indication.

5 . The gaming system of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of lights on an exterior of the gaming system, wherein the first feature and the second feature each comprise a light of the plurality of lights.

6 . The gaming system of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of physical moveable elements, wherein the first feature, second feature, and third feature each comprise a physical moveable element of the plurality of physical moveable elements.

7 . The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the gaming system comprises an Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM).

8 . The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the gaming system comprises a mobile device.

9 . The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the gaming system comprises a personal computer.

10 . A non-transitory, computer-readable medium comprises a set of instructions stored therein which, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to:

operate a first feature of an electronic game;

operate a second feature of the electronic game independent of the first feature, wherein the first feature and the second feature comprise visual elements involved in representing play of the electronic game;

operate a third feature of the electronic game independent of the first feature and the second feature, wherein the first feature and the second feature are non-adjacent on a gaming system, wherein the third feature is disposed between the first feature and the second feature on the gaming system, and wherein the third feature comprises a visual indication of a symbol of interest in the electronic game;

detect a position of a first indication of a locking function, wherein operating the first feature comprises presenting the first indication of the locking function at the detected position;

detect a position of a second indication of the locking function, wherein operating the second feature comprises presenting the second indication of the locking function at the detected position;

detect while the third feature is still operating, the symbol of interest at a position through which a line between the position of the first indication of the lock function and the position of the second indication of the lock function passes; and

in response to detecting the symbol of interest at the position through which the line between the position of the first indication of the lock function and the position of the second indication of the lock function passes, stop operation of the third feature.

11 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to:

detect a position of a third indication of the locking function, wherein operating the first feature further comprises presenting the third indication of the locking function at the detected position;

detect a position of a fourth indication of the locking function, wherein operating the second feature comprises presenting the fourth indication of the locking function at the detected position;

detect while the third feature is still operating, the symbol of interest at a position through which a line between the position of the third indication of the lock function and the position of the fourth indication of the lock function passes; and

in response to detecting the symbol of interest at the position through which the line between the position of the third indication of the lock function and the position of the fourth indication of the lock function passes, stop operation of the third feature.

12 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the locking function affects a result of the electronic game.

13 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the symbol of interest is selected by a player of the electronic game.

14 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the symbol of interest is selected by the gaming system.

15 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the symbol of interest is selected randomly.

16 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the first indication and the second indication are selected by a player of the electronic game.

17 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the first indication and the second indication are selected by the gaming system.

18 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the first indication and the second indication are is selected randomly.

19 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the gaming system comprises an Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM).

20 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the gaming system comprises a mobile device.
