Attachable Leveling System With Supporting Bracket
A vehicle leveling system includes a jack adapted to be mounted to a vehicle frame without modifying the vehicle frame. In a particular embodiment, the jack includes a first bracket adapted to urge against the bottom and side surfaces of a member of the frame and configured to be fastened to a member of the frame through a manufacturer-provided aperture in the frame. The jack additionally includes a second bracket to couple the first bracket to the jack. In a more particular embodiment, the first bracket includes a horizontal adjustment feature, and the second bracket includes a vertical adjustment feature.
1 . A method for attaching a leveling system to a vehicle frame, said method comprising:
providing a vehicle frame having first frame member defining at least one manufacturer-provided aperture disposed to facilitate attachment of a second frame member;
providing a first jack having an upper portion and a lower portion, said lower portion being extendable with respect to said upper portion;
providing a first mounting structure coupled to said jack, said first mounting structure defining a second aperture;
providing a fastener;
aligning said second aperture of said first mounting structure with said first manufacturer-provided aperture of said vehicle frame;
disposing said fastener through said second aperture of said first mounting structure and through said first manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member; and
securing said fastener to fix said first mounting structure to said first member of said vehicle frame.

The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of aligning said second aperture of said first mounting structure with said manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member includes simultaneously abutting a first horizontal surface of said mounting structure against a bottom surface of said first frame member of said vehicle frame.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said step of aligning said second aperture of said first mounting structure with said manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member includes simultaneously abutting a first upright surface of said mounting structure against a first side surface of said first frame member.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein said step of aligning said second aperture of said first mounting structure with said manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member includes simultaneously abutting a second upright surface of said mounting structure against a second side surface of said first frame member opposite said first side surface of said first frame member.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said upper portion of said first jack is removably attached to said mounting structure.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein an aperture of said mounting structure is aligned with an aperture of said first jack.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising urging said mounting structure against a bottom surface of said first frame member before said step of securing said fastener to fix said first mounting structure to said first member of said vehicle frame.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein said step of urging said mounting structure against a bottom surface of said vehicle frame includes extending said lower portion of said first jack from said upper portion of said first jack.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
said mounting structure includes a channel having an interior surface configured to cradle an exterior surface of said vehicle frame, and
said second aperture of said mounting structure extends through said interior surface of said channel.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein said second aperture extends through said interior surface of said channel along a horizontal axis.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
said mounting structure includes a first vertical planar wall configured to be mounted to said first jack;
said mounting structure includes a first horizontal planar wall having a first surface configured to engage a bottom surface of said vehicle frame and an opposite second surface;
said mounting structure includes a second vertical planar wall extending perpendicularly from said first vertical planar wall; and
said second vertical planar wall extends perpendicularly from said second surface of said first horizontal planar wall to provide vertical support to said first horizontal planar wall.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein:
said mounting structure includes a third vertical planar wall having a first surface configured to engage a side surface of said vehicle frame and an opposite second surface, and
said second vertical planar wall extends perpendicularly from said second surface of said third vertical planar wall.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
said first mounting structure defines at least two apertures, and
said step of aligning said second aperture of said first mounting structure with said first manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member includes aligning said at least two apertures of said first mounting structure with a respective at least two manufacturer-provided apertures of said first frame member.
14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said second aperture of said mounting structure is an elongated slot.
15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein
said mounting structure includes a channel having an interior surface configured to cradle an exterior surface of said vehicle frame, and
said aperture of said mounting structure extends through said interior surface of said channel.
16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
said first mounting structure includes a first sidewall, a second sidewall, and a third sidewall;
said third sidewall of said first mounting structure extends from said first sidewall to said second sidewall;
said upper portion of said first jack is at least partially disposed between said first sidewall and said second sidewall;
said first sidewall of said first mounting structure defines said second aperture;
said second sidewall of said first mounting structure defines a third aperture coaxially aligned with said second aperture of said first mounting structure; and
said step of disposing said fastener through said second aperture of said first mounting structure and through said first manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member further includes disposing said fastener through said third aperture of said second sidewall of said first mounting structure.
17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
said step of providing a vehicle frame includes providing said second frame member;
said second frame member defines a third manufacturer-provided aperture;
said step of aligning said second aperture of said first mounting structure with said first manufacturer-provided aperture of said vehicle frame further includes aligning said second aperture of said first mounting structure with said third manufacturer-provided aperture of said second frame member; and
said step of disposing said fastener through said second aperture of said first mounting structure and through said first manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member further includes disposing said fastener through said third manufacturer-provided aperture of said second frame member.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein:
said first mounting structure includes a first sidewall, a second sidewall, and a third sidewall;
said third sidewall of said first mounting structure extends from said first sidewall to said second sidewall;
said upper portion of said first jack is at least partially disposed between said first sidewall and said second sidewall;
said first sidewall of said first mounting structure defines said third aperture;
said second sidewall of said first mounting structure defines a fourth aperture coaxially aligned with said third aperture of said first mounting structure; and
said step of disposing said fastener through said second aperture of said first mounting structure and through said first manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member further includes disposing said fastener through said fourth aperture of said second sidewall of said first mounting structure.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein:
said first frame member defines a fifth manufacturer-provided aperture;
said second frame member defines a sixth manufacturer-provided aperture;
said first sidewall of said mounting structure defines a seventh aperture;
said second sidewall of said mounting structure defines an eighth aperture; and further comprising
providing a second fastener; and
disposing said second fastener through said fifth manufacturer-provided aperture of said first frame member, through said sixth manufacturer-provided aperture of said second frame member, through said seventh aperture of said first sidewall of said mounting structure, and through said eighth aperture of said second sidewall of said mounting structure.
20 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
removing a preinstalled fastener from said first manufacturer-provided aperture in said first frame member to disengage a second frame member from said first frame member; and wherein
said fastener is different than said preinstalled fastener.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein:
said preinstalled fastener has a first length;
said fastener has a second length; and
said first length is greater than said second length.
