Abstract

A compound that includes a menthol glycinate. The menthol glycinate includes a menthol connected to a glycine or glycine derivative, via an ester linkage. The groups on the N atom are referred to as R 1 and R 2 , and R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from the group consisting of: H, alkyl and R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom to which they are attached form a 4-8-member ring. R 1 and R 2 each contain at most 20 carbon atoms.

Claims (27)

1 . An oral hygiene product or edible product, comprising: a compound of Formula (I):

wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from the group consisting of: H, alkyl and R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom to which they are attached form a 4-8-member ring,

R 1 and R 2 each contain at most 20 carbon atoms, with the proviso that the compound is not N, N-dimethylglycine menthol ester, N, N-diethylglycine menthol ester, or N, N-dihydroxyethylglycine menthol ester, and

wherein the product is selected from the group consisting of toothpaste, mouthwash, candy, gum, mints and lozenges.

2 . An oral hygiene product or edible product, comprising: a compound of Formula (I):

wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from the group consisting of: H, alkyl and R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom to which they are attached form a 4-8-member ring,

R 1 and R 2 each contain at most 20 carbon atoms, and

with the proviso that the compound is not N, N-dimethylglycine menthol ester, N, N-diethylglycine menthol ester, or N, N-dihydroxyethylglycine menthol ester,

wherein the product further comprises water and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of castor oil, citric acid esters of mono-and di-glycerides, ethyl acetate, glycerol (glycerin), glyceryl diacetate, isopropyl alcohol, monoglycerides, diglycerides, propylene glycol mono-esters of fatty acids, propylene glycol diesters of fatty acids and mixtures thereof.

3 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a substituted alkyl.

4 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 3 , wherein the substituted alkyl is a group comprising a member selected from the group consisting of an aryl group, an ether group and an amine group.

5 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein at least one of R 1 and R 2 is an alkyl group of 3-6 carbon atoms.

6 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a propyl group.

7 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein R 1 is selected from the group consisting of: a methyl group, an ethyl group and a hydrogen atom.

8 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein the compound of formula (I) is:

9 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein R 1 and R 2 and the N atom to which they are attached form a piperidine or pyrrolidine ring.

10 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein both R 1 and R 2 comprise an alkyl group of 3-6 carbon atoms.

11 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein the product is gum.

12 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 1 , wherein the product is toothpaste.

13 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 2 , wherein at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a substituted alkyl.

14 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 13 , wherein the substituted alkyl is a group comprising a member selected from the group consisting of an aryl group, an ether group and an amine group.

15 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 2 , wherein at least one of R 1 and R 2 is an alkyl group of 3-6 carbon atoms.

16 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 2 , wherein at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a propyl group.

17 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 2 , wherein R 1 is selected from the group consisting of: a methyl group, an ethyl group and a hydrogen atom.

18 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 2 , wherein the compound of formula (I) is:

19 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 2 , wherein R 1 and R 2 and the N atom to which they are attached form a piperidine or pyrrolidine ring.

20 . The oral hygiene product or edible product of claim 2 , wherein both R 1 and R 2 comprise an alkyl group of 3-6 carbon atoms.
