SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR JOINT REPLACEMENT
Systems and methods for joint replacement are provided. The systems and methods include a surgical orientation device and at least one orthopedic fixture. The surgical orientation device and orthopedic fixtures can be used to locate the orientation of an axis in the body, to adjust an orientation of a cutting plane or planes along a bony surface, to distract a joint, or to otherwise assist in an orthopedic procedure or procedures.
1 . (canceled)
2 . An orthopedic system comprising:
an orthopedic apparatus;
a reusable inertial navigation system comprising:
a housing,
at least one circuit board,
at least one inertial sensor, and
a battery; and
a disposable component configured to receive the reusable inertial navigation system, wherein the disposable component is configured to allow the reusable inertial navigation system to be reused in a sanitary manner.
3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the disposable component comprises a flap configured to seal an opening in an outer housing.
4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the reusable inertial navigation system comprises a display.
5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the disposable component is manufactured in a sterile state.
6 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the battery is rechargeable.
7 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the disposable component is packaged with the battery.
8 . The system of claim 2 , further comprising a shield configured to provide a temporary barrier between the reusable inertial navigation system and the disposable component.
9 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the reusable inertial navigation system comprises a touch screen display.
10 . A method comprising:
inserting a reusable inertial navigation system into a disposable component, the reusable inertial navigation system comprising a housing, at least one circuit board, at least one inertial sensor, and a battery, wherein the disposable component allows the reusable inertial navigation system to be reused in a sanitary manner; and
coupling the disposable component to an orthopedic apparatus.
11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising positioning a sterile shield relative to the disposable component.
12 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising interacting with a touchscreen display of the reusable inertial navigation system.
13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the at least one inertial sensor calculates an orientation or position of the reusable inertial navigation system.
14 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising manipulating user interface elements by pressing against a transparent section of the disposable component.
15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the reusable inertial navigation system is received within the disposable component without the reusable inertial navigation system contacting any outside surface of the disposable component.
16 . A reusable inertial navigation system comprising:
an electronic control unit,
at least one inertial sensor,
