Abstract

A system for deploying an implant cut from a biological tissue into an eye of a patient including a delivery device and a nose cone assembly, a tubular shaft projecting from the distal end region of the nose cone and comprising a lumen. Related devices, systems, and methods are provided.

Claims (24)

144 . A delivery device for deploying an implant cut from a biological tissue into an eye of a patient, the delivery device comprising:

a proximal housing comprising an actuator;

a nose cone comprising a proximal end region coupled to the proximal housing and a distal end region; and

a tubular shaft projecting from the distal end region of the nose cone comprising a distal end region having a distal opening, a proximal end region having a proximal opening, and a lumen extending between the distal opening and the proximal opening, where the tubular shaft comprises an introducer tube at least partially encapsulated by an outer tube member, the introducer tube formed of a first material and the outer tube member formed of a second material that is different from the first material.

145 . The delivery device of claim 144 , wherein at least the proximal end region of the tubular shaft is coaxial with a longitudinal axis.

146 . The delivery device of claim 145 , wherein the distal end region of the tubular shaft comprises a curve away from the longitudinal axis of the proximal end region so that the distal opening from the tubular shaft surrounds a different longitudinal axis.

147 . The delivery device of claim 146 , wherein the distal end region forms a tangent arc with radii between 10-20 mm.

148 . The delivery device of claim 146 , wherein a terminal end of the introducer tube is arranged proximal of the curve in the tubular shaft and the outer tube member extends past the terminal end of the introducer tube forming the distal end region of the tubular shaft.

149 . The delivery device of claim 148 , wherein the distal end region of the tubular shaft is translucent or transparent.

150 . The delivery device of claim 149 , wherein the distal end region is about 3 mm to about 7 mm long.

151 . The delivery device of claim 144 , wherein the first material of the introducer tube is opaque, and the second material of the outer tube member is translucent or transparent.

152 . The delivery device of claim 151 , wherein the first material of the introducer tube comprises Nitinol or stainless steel and the second material of the outer tube member comprises a polymer.

153 . The delivery device of claim 144 , wherein the second material of the outer tube member that at least partially encapsulates the introducer tube ensures the lumen through the tubular shaft is smooth and prevents misalignment or jamming of an implant during deployment from the lumen.

154 . The delivery device of claim 144 , wherein the introducer tube comprises one or more fenestrations extending through a side wall, the one or more fenestrations covered by the second material of the outer tube member.

155 . The delivery device of claim 154 , wherein the lumen of the tubular shaft is revealed by the second material of the outer tube member covering the one or more fenestrations.

156 . The delivery device of claim 155 , wherein the one or more fenestrations form a metering system of the tubular shaft.

157 . The delivery device of claim 156 , wherein the metering system is configured to identify a length of the implant within the lumen and/or a depth of insertion of the tubular shaft between tissue layers.

158 . The delivery device of claim 144 , further comprising a push rod within the tubular shaft that is positioned proximal of an implant positioned within the lumen of the tubular shaft.

159 . The delivery device of claim 158 , wherein the tubular shaft is proximally retractable relative to the push rod.

160 . The delivery device of claim 159 , wherein the push rod is designed to remain stationary during proximal retraction of the tubular shaft to unsheathe the implant from the tubular shaft.

161 . The delivery device of claim 158 , wherein the push rod is configured to be advanced distally so as to fully externalize the implant from the lumen of the tubular shaft.

162 . The delivery device of claim 144 , wherein the tubular shaft comprises a flexible portion and a rigid portion such that depending on relative position of the flexible portion and the rigid portion change a curvature of the tubular shaft.

163 . The delivery device of claim 162 , wherein the distal end region of the tubular shaft is the flexible portion.
