Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to a shipping container with a corrugated medium that lines an interior pocket of the shipping container as well devices and components (e.g., corrugating rollers, corrugating machines, scoring rollers, and scoring machines) that are utilized to manufacture the shipping containers. The corrugated medium has flutes that cushion, support, and protect a product that is shipped within the shipping container. The corrugated medium may include a first portion with first flutes and a second portion with second flutes that are offset relative to the first flutes. The offset first flutes and second flutes results in peaks of the first flutes nesting within valleys of the second flutes, and peaks of the second flutes nesting within valleys of the first flutes.

Claims (49)

an outer surface extends from the first end to the second end;

a first group of flutes at the outer surface; and

a second group of flutes at the outer surface, the second group of flutes offset relative to the first group of flutes.

2 . The roller of claim 1 , wherein:

the first group of flutes extend from the first end towards the second end; and

the second group of flutes extend from the second end towards the first end.

3 . The roller of claim 2 , further comprising a third group of flutes at the outer surface, the third group of flutes extends from the first group of flutes to the second group of flutes.

4 . The roller of claim 3 , wherein:

the first group of flutes having respective first ends terminating at the third group of flutes;

the second group of flutes having respective second ends terminating at the third group of flutes; and

the third group of flutes being transverse to the first and second group of flutes, and the third group of flutes having:

respective third ends abutting the first ends of the first group of flutes; and

respective fourth ends abutting the second ends of the second group of flutes.

5 . The roller of claim 4 , wherein respective flutes of the first, second, and third group of flutes have a first height.

6 . The roller of claim 4 , further comprising a flat region extending from the first end to the second end.

7 . The roller of claim 6 , wherein the flat region separates first respective ones of the first group of flutes, the second group of flutes, and the third group of flutes from second respective ones of the first group of flutes, the second group of flutes, and the third group of flutes.

8 . The roller of claim 4 , further comprising a fourth region of flutes that extends from first end to the second end.

9 . The roller of claim 8 , wherein:

respective flutes of the first, second, and third groups of flutes have a first height; and

respective flutes of the fourth group of flutes have a second height less than the first height.

10 . The roller of claim 1 , wherein:

respective flutes of the first group of flutes have a first height; and

respective flutes of the second group of flutes have the first height.

11 . The roller of claim 1 , wherein:

the first group of flutes terminates at first respective ends; and

the second group of flutes terminates at second respective ends spaced apart from the first respective ends of the first group of flutes.

12 . A roller, comprising:

an outer surface;

a first flute on the outer surface, the first flute having a first height;

a second flute on the outer surface, the second flute having a second height that is different than the first height.

13 . The roller of claim 12 , wherein the second height is less than the first height.

14 . The roller of claim 13 , further comprising a first end and a second end opposite to the first end, wherein the first flute extends from the first end to the second end and the second flute extends from the first end to the second end.

15 . The roller of claim 12 , wherein:

the second height is less than the first height;

the first flute is one of a first group of first flutes having the first height; and

the second flute is one of a second group of second flutes having the second height.

16 . The roller of claim 15 , wherein the first group of first flutes is at and along a first area of the outer surface and the second group of second flutes is at and along a second area of the outer surface different from the first area.

17 . The roller of claim 16 , wherein the first area is greater than the second area.

18 . A roller, comprising:

a first end;

a second end opposite to the first end;

an outer surface extending from the first end to the second end;

a frist region of flutes exposed along the outer surface, the flutes at the first region having a first height and extend from the first end to the second end;

a second region of flutes on the outer surface, the flutes of the second region having the first height and extend from the first end to the second end; and

a third region exposed at the outer surface, the third region extends from the first region of flutes to the second region of flutes and extends from the first end to the second end, the thrid region separates the first region of flutes from the second region of flutes.

19 . The roller of claim 18 , wherein the third region is a third region of flutes, and the flutes of the third region have a second height different from the first height.
