Abstract

A network system for accessing situation related information is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes a network connection for receiving an indication of an occurrence of a situation; a situational network formed based on the occurrence of the situation, the situational network including a plurality of participant devices determined to be geographically proximate to the situation, each of the participant devices corresponding to a participant in the situational network; a second network connection for presenting a roll call query to each of the plurality of participant devices soliciting a reply related to a status of the participant; a plurality of network connections established for receiving a status response from the participant devices; and a database for aggregating the status responses from responsive participants into a roll call list.

Claims (32)

1 . (canceled)

2 . A method of sharing information and controlling communications between a plurality of devices related to an occurrence or expected occurrence of an emergency event using a situational network, the method comprising:

based at least in part on the occurrence or the expected occurrence of the emergency event:

creating a projection of the plurality of devices, the projection comprising a subset of the plurality of devices, wherein the projection is created based on respective locations of devices of the plurality of devices;

joining the subset of the plurality of devices to a group in the situational network, and providing group communication capability via the situational network, for accessing information associated with the emergency event to the subset of the plurality of devices using the group communication capability;

gathering status information from each device of the subset of the plurality of devices joined to the group;

generating aggregated status information gathered at least from each device of the subset of the plurality of devices joined to the group, wherein the aggregated status information is shared among the subset of the plurality of devices according to respective access levels of devices of the subset of the plurality of devices;

allowing access to the aggregated status information based on the respective access levels of devices of the subset of the plurality of devices,

wherein, when communications bandwidth available in the situational network is low, the access to the aggregated status information is prioritized for devices with a particular access level, and restricted for devices with an access level other than the particular access level;

wherein the respective access levels of devices of the subset of the plurality of devices are based on respective roles of users associated with the respective devices of the subset of the plurality of devices relative to the occurrence or the expected occurrence of the emergency event.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the joining of the subset of the plurality of devices to the group in the situational network is performed automatically based on identification of the emergency event.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the identification of the emergency event comprises identification of an emergency weather phenomenon.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the group communication capability comprises a capability for sharing voice data between at least some devices of the subset of the plurality of devices.

6 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising assigning the particular access level to a particular device of the subset of the plurality of devices based on determining that a particular user of the particular device is identified as an emergency responder.

7 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising assigning the particular access level to a particular device of the subset of the plurality of devices based on determining that the particular device is associated with a particular agency.

8 . A system for sharing information and controlling communications between a plurality of devices related to an occurrence or expected occurrence of an emergency event using a situational network, the system comprising:

one or more processors configured to:

based at least in part on the occurrence or the expected occurrence of the emergency event:

create a projection of the plurality of devices, the projection comprising a subset of the plurality of devices, wherein the projection is created based on respective locations of devices of the plurality of devices;

join the subset of the plurality of devices to a group in the situational network, and providing group communication capability via the situational network, for accessing information associated with the emergency event to the subset of the plurality of devices using the group communication capability;

gather status information from each device of the subset of the plurality of devices joined to the group;

generate aggregated status information gathered at least from each device of the subset of the plurality of devices joined to the group, wherein the aggregated status information is shared among the subset of the plurality of devices according to respective access levels of devices of the subset of the plurality of devices;

allow access to the aggregated status information based on the respective access levels of devices of the subset of the plurality of devices

wherein, when communications bandwidth available in the situational network is low, the access to the aggregated status information is prioritized for devices with a particular access level, and restricted for devices with an access level other than the particular access level

wherein the respective access levels of devices of the subset of the plurality of devices are based on respective roles of users associated with the respective devices of the subset of the plurality of devices relative to the occurrence or the expected occurrence of the emergency event.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the joining of the subset of the plurality of devices to the group in the situational network is performed automatically based on identification of the emergency event.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the identification of the emergency event comprises identification of an emergency weather phenomenon

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the group communication capability comprises a capability for sharing voice data between at least some devices of the subset of the plurality of devices.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors is further configured to:

assign the particular access level to a particular device of the subset of the plurality of devices based on determining that a particular user of the particular device is identified as an emergency responder.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors is further configured to:

assign the particular access level to a particular device of the subset of the plurality of devices based on determining that the particular device is associated with a particular agency.
