Abstract

A mattress has a mattress top, a mattress bottom, and a mattress perimeter. The mattress included the following features. An air chamber has an air chamber perimeter. A coiled spring perimeter includes a first set of coiled springs surrounding the air chamber perimeter. A topper portion has a support layer between the air chamber and the mattress top.

Claims (43)

1 .- 20 . (canceled)

21 . A mattress defining a mattress top, a mattress bottom, and a mattress perimeter, the mattress comprises:

a bottom portion defining a first layer, the bottom portion comprising:

a first plurality of springs extending around the mattress perimeter; and

at least one air chamber positioned within the first plurality of springs;

a second layer positioned on top of the bottom portion; and

a topper portion defining a third layer, the topper portion comprising:

a second plurality of springs extending around the mattress perimeter; and

a foam core positioned within the second plurality of springs.

22 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein an upper surface of the at least one air chamber and an upper surface of the first plurality of springs are substantially co-planar.

23 . The mattress of claim 22 , wherein the second layer is a scrim adhesively attached to the upper surface of the first plurality of springs.

24 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein a bottom surface of the foam core and a bottom surface of the second plurality of springs are substantially co-planar.

25 . The mattress of claim 24 , wherein the second layer is a scrim adhesively attached to the bottom surface of the second plurality of springs.

26 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein the second layer is a scrim that extends across the second layer to the mattress perimeter.

27 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein the second layer is a scrim that extends completely between the bottom portion and the topper portion to the mattress perimeter.

28 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein the first layer, the second layer, and the third layer are vertically separated.

29 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein a height of the first plurality of springs and a height of the second plurality of springs are substantially equal.

30 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein both a height of the first plurality of springs and a height of the second plurality of springs are different and a spring rate of the first plurality of springs and a spring rate of the second plurality of springs are different.

31 . The mattress of claim 21 , wherein the foam core comprises a first foam layer and a second foam layer, the first foam layer positioned above the second foam layer and farther away from the second layer, both of the first foam layer and the second foam layer extending entirely within the second plurality of springs.

32 . The mattress of claim 31 , wherein the first foam layer and the second foam layer each comprise foams having different material properties.

33 . The mattress of claim 21 , further comprising a cover closeable about the bottom portion, the second layer, and the topper portion, the cover comprising a zipper or a plurality of buttons.

34 . A mattress defining a mattress top, a mattress bottom, and a mattress perimeter, the mattress comprises:

a bottom portion defining a first layer having a bottom portion perimeter, the bottom portion comprising:

a plurality of coiled springs extending around the mattress perimeter; and

at least one air chamber positioned within the plurality of coiled springs;

a second layer having a second layer perimeter, the second layer positioned on top of the bottom portion; and

a topper portion defining a third layer having a topper portion perimeter, the topper portion positioned on top of the second layer, the topper portion comprising a foam,

wherein the bottom portion perimeter, the second layer perimeter, and the topper portion perimeter define the mattress perimeter.

35 . The mattress of claim 34 , wherein the second layer is a scrim fabric is adhesively attached to an upper surface of the plurality of coiled springs and a bottom surface of the foam.

36 . The mattress of claim 34 , wherein the foam comprises a first foam layer and a second foam layer, the first foam layer positioned above the second foam layer and farther away from the second layer, both of the first foam layer and the second foam layer extending entirely within the mattress perimeter.

37 . The mattress of claim 36 , wherein the first foam layer and the second foam layer each comprise foams having different material properties.

38 . A mattress defining a mattress top, a mattress bottom, and a mattress perimeter, the mattress comprises:

a bottom portion defining a first layer, the bottom portion comprising:

a first plurality of springs extending around the mattress perimeter; and

at least one air chamber positioned within the first plurality of springs;

a scrim defining a second layer, the scrim positioned on top of the bottom portion; and

a topper portion defining a third layer, the topper portion comprising:

a second plurality of coiled springs extending around the mattress perimeter and defining an inner void; and

a support layer positioned within the inner void of the second plurality of coiled springs, the support layer comprising:

a foam core extending across the inner void; and

a third plurality of coiled springs positioned under the foam core and extending across the inner void.

39 . The mattress of claim 38 , wherein the third plurality of coiled springs is adhesively attached to the scrim.

40 . The mattress of claim 38 , wherein the foam core and the second plurality of coiled springs are coupled together forming an upside-down cavity configured to made with the third plurality of coiled springs extending upward from the scrim.
