Abstract

Methods of insulin delivery may include selecting a basal insulin delivery rate responsive to a projected blood glucose level that approximates a target blood glucose level. Methods of insulin delivery may further include generating insulin delivery instructions for an insulin delivery device, the insulin delivery instructions corresponding to the basal insulin delivery rate and for a variable time duration relative to an intended time duration.

Claims (29)

1 . A system, comprising:

a medicament delivery device;

an analyte monitor configured to obtain one or more analyte values in response to a request invoking the analyte monitor received via an interface for short-range wireless communication; and

a controller configured to:

obtain one or more analyte values from the analyte monitor in response to the request invoking the analyte monitor;

operate the medicament delivery device in a closed-loop mode based on the one or more analyte values;

determine whether a predetermined duration of time has passed since a previous request invoking the analyte monitor; and

transition operation of the medicament delivery device from the closed-loop mode to an open-loop mode in response to a determination that the predetermined duration of time has passed since the previous request invoking the analyte monitor.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the request invoking the analyte monitor is an action that triggers the analyte monitor to obtain, store or transmit analyte values.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to transition operation of the medicament delivery device from the open-loop mode to the closed-loop mode in response to a current request invoking the analyte monitor, the open-loop mode based on a fixed, pre-determined basal rate.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to provide an alarm or alert in response to transitioning operation of the medicament delivery device to the open-loop mode due to the predetermined duration of time passing since the previous request invoking the analyte monitor.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the interface for short-range wireless communication comprises near field communication (NFC).

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the interface for short-range wireless communication comprises BLUETOOTH® communication.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is integrated with the medicament delivery device.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller comprises a separate device from the medicament delivery device.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined duration of time defines a duration after which the one or more analyte values become stale.

10 . A method, comprising:

obtaining one or more analyte values from an analyte monitor in response to a request invoking the analyte monitor via an interface for short-range wireless communication;

operating a medicament delivery device in a closed-loop mode based on the one or more analyte values;

determining whether a predetermined duration of time has passed since a previous request invoking the analyte monitor; and

transitioning operation of the medicament delivery device from the closed-loop mode to an open-loop mode in response to a determination that the predetermined duration of time has passed since the previous request invoking the analyte monitor.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the request invoking the analyte monitor comprises an action triggering the analyte monitor to obtain, store or transmit analyte values.

12 . The method of claim 11 , comprising:

transitioning operation of the medicament delivery device from the open-loop mode to the closed-loop mode in response to a current request invoking the analyte monitor, the open-loop mode based on a fixed, pre-determined basal rate.

13 . The method of claim 11 , comprising:

providing an alarm or alert in response to transitioning operation of the medicament delivery device to the open-loop mode due to the predetermined duration of time passing since the previous request invoking the analyte monitor.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the interface for short-range wireless communication comprises near field communication (NFC).

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the interface for short-range wireless communication comprises BLUETOOTH® communication.

16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the predetermined duration of time defining a duration after which the one or more analyte values become stale.
