Abstract

Nozzles for three-dimensional printing and related nozzle assemblies and methods may include at least one top surface, at least one bottom surface, and at least one lateral surface extending from or near the top surface to or near the bottom surface. The nozzle includes at least one conduit surface defining a conduit. The conduit surface extends from or near the top surface to or near the bottom surface.

Claims (40)

1 .- 20 . (canceled)

21 . A nozzle assembly for three-dimensional printing, comprising:

a base including an attachment portion configured to be attached to a printing device; and

a nozzle attached to the base, the nozzle including:

at least one top surface;

at least one bottom surface opposite the at least one top surface;

at least one lateral surface; and

at least one conduit surface extending from the at least one top surface to the at least one bottom surface, the at least one conduit surface defining a conduit through the nozzle in communication with the base;

wherein the at least one conduit surface includes a first portion proximate to the at least one top surface having a first annular shape and a second portion proximate the at least one bottom surface having a second annular shape extending in a direction transverse to central axis of the nozzle; and

wherein at least a portion of the at least one conduit surface includes at least one superhard material.

22 . The nozzle assembly of claim 21 , wherein the nozzle further comprises at least one outer chamfer extending from the at least one top surface to the at least one lateral surface.

23 . The nozzle assembly of claim 21 , wherein the nozzle further comprises at least one inner chamfer extending from the at least one top surface to the at least one conduit surface.

24 . The nozzle assembly of claim 21 , wherein the at least one top surface of the nozzle extends linearly in a direction transverse to the central axis and then transitions into the at least one lateral surface extending at an oblique angle relative to the central axis.

25 . The nozzle assembly of claim 21 , wherein the nozzle is attached to the base via a brazing process.

26 . The nozzle assembly of claim 25 , wherein the base comprises a recess for receiving at least a portion of nozzle and a brazing material.

27 . The nozzle assembly of claim 26 , wherein the recess of the base is in communication with a passageway configured to be in fluid communication a printing material source, the recess having a width that is greater than a width of the passageway.

28 . The nozzle assembly of claim 21 , wherein the at least one lateral surface of the nozzle have been formed by a laser removal process.

29 . The nozzle assembly of claim 21 , wherein at least a portion of an outer surface of the nozzle has been formed by a laser removal process.

30 . The nozzle assembly of claim 29 , wherein the at least a portion of an outer surface of the nozzle is formed by a laser ablation process.

31 . The nozzle assembly of claim 21 , wherein a substantial entirety of the nozzle is formed with the at least one superhard material.

32 . A nozzle assembly for three-dimensional printing, comprising:

a base including an attachment portion configured to be attached to a printing device; and

a nozzle attached to the base via a brazing process, the nozzle being formed by at least one superhard material and including:

at least one top surface;

at least one bottom surface opposite the at least one top surface;

at least one lateral surface; and

at least one conduit surface extending from the at least one top surface to the at least one bottom surface, the at least one conduit surface defining a conduit;

wherein at least a portion of the at least one conduit surface extends is a direction transverse to a central axis of the nozzle; and

wherein interior features and exterior features of the nozzle have been formed using a laser process.

33 . The nozzle assembly of claim 32 , wherein the interior features and the exterior features of the nozzle have been formed using the laser process comprising laser ablation.

34 . The nozzle assembly of claim 32 , wherein the at least one conduit surface of the nozzle comprises a first annular section extending at a first angle relative to the central axis of the nozzle, and wherein the at least one conduit surface of the nozzle comprises a second annular section extending at a second angle that is different than the first angle relative to the central axis of the nozzle.

35 . The nozzle assembly of claim 32 , wherein a majority of the nozzle is formed with the at least one superhard material.

36 . The nozzle assembly of claim 32 , wherein the nozzle is received and brazed at least partially within a recess defined in the base.

37 . The nozzle assembly of claim 32 , wherein the nozzle includes an outer chamfer between the at least one top surface and an exterior of the nozzle or an inner chamfer between the at least one top surface and the at least one conduit surface.

38 . A method of forming a nozzle assembly for use in a three-dimensional printing process, the method comprising:

forming at least a portion of an interior and at least a portion of an exterior of a nozzle from at least one superhard material;

defining a conduit with the interior of the nozzle, at least a portion of the conduit extending in a direction transverse to a central axis of the nozzle; and

attaching the nozzle to a base configured to be attached to a printing device via a brazing process.

39 . The method of claim 38 , further comprising defining at least one chamfer at an outlet of the nozzle, the at least one chamfer extending to the interior of the nozzle and/or the exterior of the nozzle.

40 . The method of claim 38 , further comprising defining the conduit with at least two annular sections of the nozzle, the at least two annular sections being set at an oblique angle relative to each other.
