Abstract

A system for measuring an angle of a joint of a user includes a center hub, a first arm, a second arm, a magnet, and a sensor. The center hub includes a first hub and a second hub. The first arm is configured for attachment to a first limb portion of the user at a first outer end and to the first hub at a first inner end. The second arm is configured for attachment to a second limb portion of the user at a second outer end and to the second hub at a second inner end, wherein the first hub is pivotally coupled to the second hub. The magnet is coupled to the second hub. The sensor is disposed in the center hub and configured to detect a rotation of the magnet.

Claims (43)

1 . A system for measuring an angle of a joint of a user, comprising:

a center hub;

a first arm including a first outer end and a first inner end and configured for attachment to a first limb portion of the user at the first outer end and to the center hub at the first inner end; and

a second arm including a second outer end and a second inner end and configured for attachment to a second limb portion of the user at the second outer end and to the center hub at the second inner end,

wherein the first arm defines a major axis between the center hub and the first outer end, and

wherein the first arm further includes a pivot configured to facilitate the first outer end to be rotatable relative to the center hub and about an axis parallel to the major axis.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the pivot includes a screw, and wherein the screw defines a screw axis aligned parallel with the major axis of the first arm.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first arm further includes a pin disposed perpendicular to the major axis and configured to facilitate the first outer end to be pivotable thereabout.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the first arm further includes a second pin disposed perpendicular to the major axis and wherein the second pin is configured to facilitate the first outer end to be pivotable thereabout, and

wherein the pivot is disposed between the pin and the second pin, thereby enabling the second pin to be rotatable relative to the center hub together with the first outer end.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first arm is pivotally coupled to the second arm at the center hub to rotate about a primary axis, and wherein the axis parallel to the major axis is perpendicular to the primary axis.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the center hub further includes a link arm configured for coupling to the first arm, and wherein the first arm further includes:

an inner link pivotably coupled to the link arm; and

an outer link pivotably coupled to the first outer end,

wherein the pivot is disposed between the inner link and the outer link and configured to facilitate the outer link to be rotatable relative to the inner link and about the axis parallel to the major axis.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the second arm defines a second major axis between the center hub and the second outer end, and

wherein the second arm further includes a second pivot configured to facilitate the second outer end to be rotatable relative to the center hub and about an axis parallel to the second major axis.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the center hub includes a first hub coupled to the first arm, and a second hub coupled to the second arm, and

wherein the first hub is pivotably coupled to the second hub and configured to rotate 360 degrees relative thereto.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second arms are adhesively attached to respective ones of the first and second limb portions of the user.

10 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a sensor disposed in the center hub and configured to measure an angle between the first arm and the second arm.

11 . The system of claim 10 , further comprising a user interface configured to:

receive data from the sensor representing the angle between the first arm and the second arm, and

display, based on the data from the sensor, an indication of the angle of the joint of the user.

12 . A device for measuring an angle of a joint of a user, comprising:

a center hub; and

a first arm including a first outer end and a first inner end and configured for attachment to a first limb portion of the user at the first outer end and to the center hub at the first inner end,

wherein the first arm is pivotably coupled at the center hub to rotate about a primary axis that extends through the center hub,

wherein the first arm defines a major axis between the center hub and the first outer end, and

wherein the first arm further includes a pivot configured to facilitate the first outer end to be rotatable relative to the center hub and about an axis parallel to the major axis.

13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the pivot includes a screw, and wherein the screw defines a screw axis aligned parallel with the major axis of the first arm.

14 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the first arm further includes a pin disposed perpendicular to the major axis and configured to facilitate the first outer end to be pivotable thereabout.

15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the first arm further includes a second pin disposed perpendicular to the major axis and wherein the second pin is configured to facilitate the first outer end to be pivotable thereabout, and

wherein the pivot is disposed between the pin and the second pin, thereby enabling the second pin to be rotatable relative to the center hub together with the first outer end.

16 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the axis parallel to the major axis is perpendicular to the primary axis.

17 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the center hub further includes a link arm configured for coupling to the first arm, and wherein the first arm further includes:

an inner link pivotably coupled to the link arm; and

an outer link pivotably coupled to the first outer end,

wherein the pivot is disposed between the inner link and the outer link and configured to facilitate the outer link to be rotatable relative to the inner link and about the axis parallel to the major axis.

18 . The device of claim 12 , further comprising: a second arm configured for attachment to a second limb portion of the user at a second outer end and to the center hub at a second inner end.

19 . The device of claim 18 , wherein the second arm defines a second major axis between the center hub and the second outer end, and

wherein the second arm further includes a second pivot configured to facilitate the second outer end to be rotatable relative to the center hub and about an axis parallel to the second major axis.

20 . The device of claim 18 , wherein the first arm is pivotably coupled to the second arm at the center hub and configured to rotate 360 degrees relative thereto.
