Abstract

A multifaceted approach to putter fitting including capturing positioning and movement of a user's body, movement of a golf ball, and movement of a putter. The various techniques are analyzed to arrive at a putter recommendation specific to the user.

Claims (66)

1 . A putter fitting method comprising:

utilizing an Optical Body Motion Capture, an Outcome-Based Performance Capture, and a Sensor Putter Motion Capture,

wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture comprises:

capturing a video of a user during a putting stroke, and

assigning one or more markers to a specific area of interest as said user performs said putting stroke;

wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture comprises:

collecting ball shot data for a plurality of putts hit by said user; and

wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture comprises:

measuring motion of a putter through said putting stroke.

2 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture further comprises:

capturing an address position of said user prior to said putting stroke.

3 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said specific area of interest comprises at least one of eyes, chin, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, thumbs, hips, knees, feet, putter grip, putter shaft, and putter head.

4 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said ball shot data comprises at least one of shot made/missed, path length, path angle, ball speed, ball trajectory, and shot lip-out.

5 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture further comprises:

calculating an aim variation and/or a speed variation for said plurality of putts.

6 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture further comprises:

calculating strokes gained for said plurality of putts.

7 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture further comprises:

simulating ball shot data.

8 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

coupling a sensor to said putter.

9 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

measuring a speed of said putter or an arc of said putter though said putting stroke.

10 . The putter fitting method of claim 1 , wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

measuring at least one of a loft angle of said putter at an impact position, a lie angle of said putter at said impact position, and whether said putter is open or closed at said impact position.

11 . A putter fitting method comprising:

utilizing at least two of an Optical Body Motion Capture, an Outcome-Based Performance Capture, and a Sensor Putter Motion Capture,

wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture comprises:

capturing a video of a user during a putting stroke;

wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture comprises:

collecting ball shot data for a plurality of putts hit by said user; and

wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture comprises:

measuring motion of a putter through said putting stroke.

12 . The putter fitting method of claim 11 , wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture further comprises:

assigning one or more markers to a specific area of interest as said user performs said putting stroke; and

wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

measuring a speed of said putter or an arc of said putter though said putting stroke.

13 . The putter fitting method of claim 12 , wherein said specific area of interest comprises at least one of eyes, chin, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, thumbs, hips, knees, feet, putter grip, putter shaft, and putter head; and

wherein said ball shot data comprises at least one of shot made/missed, path length, path angle, ball speed, ball trajectory, and shot lip-out.

14 . The putter fitting method of claim 11 , wherein said ball shot data comprises at least one of shot made/missed, path length, path angle, ball speed, ball trajectory, and shot lip-out; and

wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

measuring at least one of a loft angle of said putter at an impact position, a lie angle of said putter at said impact position, and whether said putter is open or closed at said impact position.

15 . The putter fitting method of claim 14 , wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture further comprises:

capturing an address position of said user prior to said putting stroke; and

wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture further comprises:

simulating ball shot data.

16 . The putter fitting method of claim 11 , wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture further comprises:

calculating strokes gained for said plurality of putts; and

wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

coupling a sensor to said putter.

17 . The putter fitting method of claim 16 , wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture further comprises:

assigning one or more markers to a specific area of interest as said user performs said putting stroke; and

wherein said ball shot data comprises at least one of shot made/missed, path length, path angle, ball speed, ball trajectory, and shot lip-out.

18 . The putter fitting method of claim 11 , wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture further comprises:

capturing an address position of said user prior to said putting stroke; and

wherein said ball shot data comprises at least one of shot made/missed, path length, path angle, ball speed, ball trajectory, and shot lip-out.

19 . The putter fitting method of claim 18 , wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture further comprises:

calculating an aim variation and/or a speed variation for said plurality of putts; and

wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

measuring a speed of said putter or an arc of said putter though said putting stroke.

20 . The putter fitting method of claim 19 , wherein said Optical Body Motion Capture further comprises:

assigning one or more markers to a specific area of interest as said user performs said putting stroke;

wherein said Outcome-Based Performance Capture further comprises:

simulating ball shot data; and

wherein said Sensor Putter Motion Capture further comprises:

measuring at least one of a loft angle of said putter at an impact position, a lie angle of said putter at said impact position, and whether said putter is open or closed at said impact position.
