Abstract

A communication session is established between a device of a first user and a device of a second user. An input is received from the device of the first user. Based on the input, an external bypass step handler is communicated with to modify a property of the communication session. The communication session is then continued with the modified property. Continuing the communication session with the modified property may include maintaining a signaling channel associated with the communication session and changing a destination of a media stream of the communication session.

Claims (53)

1 . A method, comprising:

establishing a communication session between a device of a first user and a device of a second user;

receiving an input from the device of the first user;

communicating, based on the input, with an external bypass step handler to modify a property of the communication session; and

continuing the communication session with the modified property.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein continuing the communication session with the modified property comprises:

maintaining a signaling channel associated with the communication session; and

changing a destination of a media stream of the communication session.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

establishing a second communication session between a server establishing the communication session and the external bypass step handler; and

rerouting a media stream of the communication session to the external bypass step handler via the second communication session.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein rerouting the media stream comprises:

using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling to negotiate a redirection of the media stream.

5 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

receiving, from the external bypass step handler, a modified media stream comprising the media stream with sensitive data obfuscated; and

transmitting the modified media stream to the device of the first user.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the input comprises a Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) key sequence that identifies the external bypass step handler.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

receiving a second DTMF key sequence from the device of the first user; and

transmitting, based on the second DTMF key sequence, a unique identifier to the external bypass step handler to associate the communication session with a transaction.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the input indicates that the external bypass step handler is to perform at least one of:

obtaining payment information from the second user;

obtaining an image of a document from the second user; or

obtaining personally identifying information from the second user.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a request from a point-of-sale system to initiate an external bypass step; and

transmitting a unique code to the point-of-sale system for association with the communication session.

10 . A system, comprising:

one or more memories; and

one or more processors, the one or more processors configured to execute instructions stored in the one or more memories to:

establish a communication session between a device of a first user and a device of a second user;

receive an input from the device of the first user;

communicate, based on the input, with an external bypass step handler to modify a property of the communication session; and

continue the communication session with the modified property.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the communication session comprises at least one of a voice call or a video call, and the property comprises a destination of a media stream.

The system of claim 10 , wherein the property indicates a path of media communication between the device of the first user and the device of the second user, and wherein the property comprises an original property indicating that a media stream passes through a server establishing the communication session, and the modified property indicates that the media stream is transmitted from the device of the second user directly to the external bypass step handler without passing through the server.

13 . The system of claim 10 , the one or more processors further configured to execute instructions in the one or more memories to:

receive, from the external bypass step handler, an indication that an external bypass step is completed; and

in response to receiving the indication that the external bypass step is completed, revert the property to an original property.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein, to revert the property, the one or more processors configured to execute instructions stored in the one or more memories to:

use Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) re-invite messages to reconfigure a media path to the device of the first user via a server.

15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the external bypass step handler is a compliance processing system configured to handle data subject to at least one of a data protection regulation, a data privacy regulation, or a compliance regulation.

16 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, perform operations comprising:

establishing a communication session between a device of a first user and a device of a second user;

receiving an input from the device of the first user;

communicating, based on the input, with an external bypass step handler to modify a property of the communication session; and

continuing the communication session with the modified property.

17 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 16 , wherein the external bypass step handler is a payment processing system configured to obtain credit card information from the second user.

18 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 16 , the operations further comprising:

associating the communication session with a transaction flow based on the input; and

transmitting session information to the external bypass step handler to enable correlation of the communication session with the transaction flow.

The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 18 , wherein the session information comprises at least one of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs), Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) parameters, media capabilities, or device information.

20 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 16 , wherein the device of the first user is associated with an un-anchored agent, and the un-anchored agent is not identifiable to a server establishing the communication session.
