GOLF CLUB HAVING AN ADJUSTABLE WEIGHT ASSEMBLY
A golf club head includes a recessed channel; and a weight assembly including a weight at least partially disposed within the recessed channel, a cover at least partially covering the recessed channel, the cover including a cover main body, a top rail protruding from the cover main body along a first direction, and a side rail protruding from the cover main body along a second direction different from the first direction, and a fastener coupling the cover to the body, wherein the weight has top and side grooves that are respectively shaped and sized to receive at least part of the top and side rails, wherein the top groove has opposite front and rear surfaces respectively proximal and distal to the striking face, and wherein the side groove has opposite top and bottom surfaces respectively proximal and distal to an exterior surface of the cover.
1 . A golf club head, comprising:
a body, comprising:
a striking face having a lower leading edge, and
a sole extending rearward from the lower leading edge;
a recessed channel formed in an outer surface of the body; and
a weight assembly, comprising:
a weight at least partially disposed within the recessed channel and configured to be movable therein; and
a cover coupled to the body and adapted to releasably secure the weight within the recessed channel,
wherein the cover comprises a plurality of protruding locating lugs, and
wherein the weight has at least one indent shaped and sized to receive at least part of one or more of the locating lugs.
2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the cover is positionable:
in a raised position, whereby the locating lugs are disengaged from the at least one indent, and the weight is movable within the recessed channel, and
in a lowered position, whereby the at least part of the one or more locating lugs is engaged with the at least one indent, and the weight is secured within the recessed channel by the cover.
3 . The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein the weight assembly comprises a fastener coupling the cover to the body, and
wherein the fastener is coupled to the cover such that the cover moves in response to the fastener moving.
4 . The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein the weight is slidable within the recessed channel when the cover is in the raised position, and
wherein the weight is positionable in only discrete positions, corresponding to the locating lugs, when the cover is in the lowered position.
5 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight has a plurality of indents shaped and sized to respectively receive at least part of a corresponding plurality of the locating lugs.
6 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the recessed channel is arranged along a toe-heel direction of the golf club head.
7 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight is movable along a length of the recessed channel between two opposite ends of the recessed channel, and the locating lugs are arranged on the cover along the length of the recessed channel.
8 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight comprises a tail projecting out from under the cover.
9 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the golf club head is a metalwood golf club head.
10 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the golf club head is an iron golf club head.
11 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the recessed channel is in the sole.
12 . A golf club head, comprising:
a body, comprising:
a striking face having a lower leading edge, and
a sole extending rearward from the lower leading edge;
a recessed channel formed in an outer surface of the body; and
a weight assembly, comprising:
a weight shaped and sized to be positioned within the recessed channel,
a cover configured to be coupled to the body and to cover at least part of the recessed channel, and
a fastener configured to couple the cover to the body,
wherein the cover comprises a plurality of protruding locating lugs, and
wherein the weight is configured to selectively engage with the locating lugs.
13 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the fastener only indirectly retains the weight in the recessed channel.
14 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the fastener is a threaded fastener, and the body has a corresponding threaded fastener opening configured to engage with at least part of the threaded fastener.
15 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the body has a fastener opening shaped and sized to receive at least part of the fastener, and the fastener opening is positioned between the recessed channel and the striking face.
16 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the cover has an outer surface, configured to face the outside of the golf club head, and an opposite inner surface configured to face the recessed channel, and
wherein the locating lugs protrude from the inner surface.
17 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of locating lugs comprise at least five locating lugs, and the weight has a hollow shaped and sized to receive at least part of the locating lugs.
18 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the fastener is movable along a fastener axis, and
wherein the cover is coupled to the fastener such that the cover is movable along the fastener axis between:
a raised position, whereby the locating lugs are disengaged from the weight and the weight is movable within the recessed channel, and
a lowered position, whereby at least part of one or more of the locating lugs engage the weight so that the weight is secured within the recessed channel at only discrete locations.
19 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the golf club head is an iron golf club head.
20 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the recessed channel is in the sole.
