Abstract

A method, computer program product, and computer system identifying intent relating to a query associated with an object. A plurality of informational items associated with the object may be identified. At least a first informational item associated with the object for which a first portion of information is already known may be identified. At least a second informational item associated with the object for which a second portion of information is unknown may be identified. A question may be generated to determine the second portion of information based upon the second portion of information being unknown. An answer may be received to determine the second portion of information. A response to the intent relating to the query may be provided based upon the first informational item for which the first portion of information is already known and the answer for the question generated to determine the second portion of information.

Claims (38)

1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

identifying, by a computing device, an intent relating to a query received from a user;

identifying a plurality of informational items associated with the intent;

determining, based at least in part on information already known for one or more informational items of the plurality of informational items, a likelihood that sufficient information is available to provide a response to the query without requesting additional information from the user;

suppressing generation of one or more user prompts that would otherwise request the additional information from the user based on the likelihood;

obtaining one or more portions of information associated with at least one of the plurality of informational items from one or more additional sources; and

providing a response to the query based at least in part on the information already known and the one or more portions of information from the one or more additional sources.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein determining the likelihood that sufficient information is available includes computing one of a probability and a confidence score indicating whether the response to the query can be generated without requesting the additional information from the user.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein suppressing generation of the one or more user prompts includes suppressing the one or more user prompts when at least one of the probability and the confidence score satisfies a threshold condition.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the likelihood that sufficient information is available is determined based at least in part on inferred information derived from previously obtained information associated with the intent.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining the one or more portions of information from the one or more additional sources includes obtaining information from a plurality of heterogeneous sources including at least one of an application programming interface, a database, and a service.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein suppressing generation of the one or more user prompts further comprises dynamically modifying a conversational interaction with the user based on the likelihood.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein providing the response to the query without requesting the additional information from the user reduces a number of user interactions required to satisfy the query.

8 . A computer program product residing on a non-transitory computer readable storage medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon which, when executed across one or more processors, causes at least a portion of the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

identifying an intent relating to a query received from a user;

identifying a plurality of informational items associated with the intent;

determining, based at least in part on information already known for one or more informational items of the plurality of informational items, a likelihood that sufficient information is available to provide a response to the query without requesting additional information from the user;

suppressing generation of one or more user prompts that would otherwise request the additional information from the user based on the likelihood;

obtaining one or more portions of information associated with at least one of the plurality of informational items from one or more additional sources; and

providing a response to the query based at least in part on the information already known and the one or more portions of information from the one or more additional sources.

The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein determining the likelihood that sufficient information is available includes computing one of a probability and a confidence score indicating whether the response to the query can be generated without requesting the additional information from the user.

10 . The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein suppressing generation of the one or more user prompts includes suppressing the one or more user prompts when at least one of the probability and the confidence score satisfies a threshold condition.

11 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the likelihood that sufficient information is available is determined based at least in part on inferred information derived from previously obtained information associated with the intent.

The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein obtaining the one or more portions of information from the one or more additional sources includes obtaining information from a plurality of heterogeneous sources including at least one of an application programming interface, a database, and a service.

13 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein suppressing generation of the one or more user prompts further comprises dynamically modifying a conversational interaction with the user based on the likelihood.

14 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein providing the response to the query without requesting the additional information from the user reduces a number of user interactions required to satisfy the query.

15 . A computing system including one or more processors and one or more memories configured to perform operations comprising:

identifying an intent relating to a query received from a user;

identifying a plurality of informational items associated with the intent;

determining, based at least in part on information already known for one or more informational items of the plurality of informational items, a likelihood that sufficient information is available to provide a response to the query without requesting additional information from the user;

suppressing generation of one or more user prompts that would otherwise request the additional information from the user based on the likelihood;

obtaining one or more portions of information associated with at least one of the plurality of informational items from one or more additional sources; and

providing a response to the query based at least in part on the information already known and the one or more portions of information from the one or more additional sources.

The computing system of claim 15 , wherein determining the likelihood that sufficient information is available includes computing one of a probability and a confidence score indicating whether the response to the query can be generated without requesting the additional information from the user.

17 . The computing system of claim 16 , wherein suppressing generation of the one or more user prompts includes suppressing the one or more user prompts when at least one of the probability and the confidence score satisfies a threshold condition.

18 . The computing system of claim 15 , wherein the likelihood that sufficient information is available is determined based at least in part on inferred information derived from previously obtained information associated with the intent.

The computing system of claim 15 , wherein obtaining the one or more portions of information from the one or more additional sources includes obtaining information from a plurality of heterogeneous sources including at least one of an application programming interface, a database, and a service.

20 . The computing system of claim 15 , wherein suppressing generation of the one or more user prompts further comprises dynamically modifying a conversational interaction with the user based on the likelihood.
