SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PREVENTING FRAUD IN THE CAPTURE OF TRIP TELEMETRY DATA
A computer-implemented method can comprise receiving a heartbeat signal with an application on a mobile device. The computer-implemented method can also comprise, after receiving the heartbeat signal: activating the application to an active or background mode or from a background mode to an active mode, and collecting telemetry data associated with one or more vehicle operations. The computer-implemented method can further comprise transmitting the telemetry data to a computing device. The computing device can identify, based at least on the telemetry data: one or more time periods indicative of a user of the mobile device operating a vehicle, and one or more time periods indicative of an absence of expected telemetry data associated with the one or more vehicle operations. The computer-implemented method can additionally comprise, when an amount of absences of the expected telemetry data meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold in a predetermined period of time, receiving an alert indicating the absence of the expected telemetry data. 1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
receiving a heartbeat signal with an application on a mobile device;
after receiving the heartbeat signal:
activating the application to an active or background mode or from a background mode to an active mode; and
collecting telemetry data associated with one or more vehicle operations;
transmitting the telemetry data to a computing device, wherein the computing device identifies, based at least on the telemetry data:
one or more time periods indicative of a user of the mobile device operating a vehicle; and
one or more time periods indicative of an absence of expected telemetry data associated with the one or more vehicle operations; and
when an amount of absences of the expected telemetry data meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold in a predetermined period of time, receiving an alert indicating the absence of the expected telemetry data.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the alert is received after it is determined that the mobile device is prevented from transmitting the expected telemetry data.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the telemetry data comprises an indication of a lack of access to one or more sensors of the mobile device.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the heartbeat signal is sent by a third party.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the heartbeat signal is received based on an indication that a location of the mobile device has changed.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the indication that the location of the mobile device has changed is based at least on a distance threshold.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the indication that the location of the mobile device has changed is further based on a global positioning system (GPS) of the mobile device or wireless network triangulation of the mobile device.
8 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; and
one or more non-transitory computer readable media storing computing instructions that, when executed on the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving a heartbeat signal with an application on a mobile device;
after receiving the heartbeat signal:
activating the application to an active or background mode or from a background mode to an active mode; and
collecting telemetry data associated with one or more vehicle operations;
transmitting the telemetry data to a computing device, wherein the computing device identifies, based at least on the telemetry data:
one or more time periods indicative of a user of the mobile device operating a vehicle; and
one or more time periods indicative of an absence of expected telemetry data associated with the one or more vehicle operations; and
when an amount of absences of the expected telemetry data meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold in a predetermined period of time, receiving an alert indicating the absence of the expected telemetry data.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the alert is received after it is determined that the mobile device is prevented from transmitting the expected telemetry data.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the telemetry data comprises an indication of a lack of access to one or more sensors of the mobile device.
11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the heartbeat signal is sent by a third party.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the heartbeat signal is received based on an indication that a location of the mobile device has changed.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the indication that the location of the mobile device has changed is based at least on a distance threshold.
14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the indication that the location of the mobile device has changed is further based on a global positioning system (GPS) of the mobile device or wireless network triangulation of the mobile device.
15 . A non-transitory computer-readable media storing computing instructions that, when executed on one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving a heartbeat signal with an application on a mobile device;
after receiving the heartbeat signal:
activating the application to an active or background mode or from a background mode to an active mode; and
collecting telemetry data associated with one or more vehicle operations;
transmitting the telemetry data to a computing device, wherein the computing device identifies, based at least on the telemetry data:
one or more time periods indicative of a user of the mobile device operating a vehicle; and
one or more time periods indicative of an absence of expected telemetry data associated with the one or more vehicle operations; and
when an amount of absences of the expected telemetry data meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold in a predetermined period of time, receiving an alert indicating the absence of the expected telemetry data.
16 . The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein at least one of:
the alert is received after it is determined that the mobile device is prevented from transmitting the expected telemetry data; or
wherein the telemetry data comprises an indication of a lack of access to one or more sensors of the mobile device.
17 . The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the heartbeat signal is sent by a third party.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the heartbeat signal is received based on an indication that a location of the mobile device has changed
