MOBILE DEVICE AS A SECURITY SYSTEM COMPONENT
In one implementation, a method for using a mobile computing device as a security system component includes receiving, from a mobile device and by a security system gateway, mobile device sensor information associated with sensor data captured by the mobile device at a premises monitored by the security system gateway; identifying, based on the received sensor information, a mobile device sensor information rule; identifying an action to perform in the mobile device sensor information rule; and automatically performing the identified action, by the security system gateway, in response to receiving the sensor information from the mobile device.
1 . A method for using a smartphone as a component of a security system, the method comprising:
receiving, at a security system gateway of the security system and from the smartphone, instructions for controlling the security system, wherein the smartphone is configured to execute a security application that causes the smartphone to operate in a dual sensor-interface mode in which the smartphone acts as a controller and as a sensor of the security system;
controlling, by the security system gateway, one or more aspects of the security system based on the received instructions;
detecting, by the security application executed by the smartphone, audio at a premises;
determining, by the security application executed by the smartphone, that the detected audio meets or exceeds a predefined decibel level;
after determining that the detected audio meets or exceeds the predefined decibel level, transmitting audio information that represents the detected audio, by the smartphone and to the security system gateway;
receiving, by the security system gateway and from the smartphone, the audio information that represents the detected audio; and
in response to receiving the audio information that represents the detected audio from the smartphone:
identifying a type of audio information; and
based on the type of audio information, performing, by the security system gateway, one or more security actions that correspond to the type of audio information.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio information that represents the detected audio includes a recording of the detected audio.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio information that represents the detected audio includes an indication that the detected audio meets or exceeds the predefined decibel level.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio information that represents the detected audio includes the type of audio information.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
after determining that the detected audio meets or exceeds the predefined decibel level, determining that the detected audio matches a template sound that corresponds to a security event, wherein the type of audio information indicates the template sound.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein determining that the detected audio matches the template sound is performed by the security application executed by the smartphone.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein determining that the detected audio matches the template sound is performed by the security system gateway.
8 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the template sound is a window breakage, a gun shot, or a human voice.
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining a current location of the smartphone, wherein the audio information that represents the detected audio is transmitted by the smartphone and to the security system gateway when the current location of the smartphone is at the premises.
10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining a current time of day, wherein the audio information that represents the detected audio is transmitted by the smartphone and to the security system gateway when the current time of day is within a preconfigured time window.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more security actions include generating an alarm.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more security actions include generating a message that indicates the type of audio information, and transmitting the message to an external system.
13 . A security system comprising a security system gateway and one or more smartphones, wherein the security system is configured to perform operations comprising:
receiving, at the security system gateway of the security system and from a smartphone, instructions for controlling the security system, wherein the smartphone is configured to execute a security application that causes the smartphone to operate in a dual sensor-interface mode in which the smartphone acts as a controller and as a sensor of the security system;
controlling, by the security system gateway, one or more aspects of the security system based on the received instructions;
detecting, by the security application executed by the smartphone, audio at a premises;
determining, by the security application executed by the smartphone, that the detected audio meets or exceeds a predefined decibel level;
after determining that the detected audio meets or exceeds the predefined decibel level, transmitting audio information that represents the detected audio, by the smartphone and to the security system gateway;
receiving, by the security system gateway and from the smartphone, the audio information that represents the detected audio; and
in response to receiving the audio information that represents the detected audio from the smartphone:
identifying a type of audio information; and
based on the type of audio information, performing, by the security system gateway, one or more security actions that correspond to the type of audio information.
14 . The security system of claim 13 , the operations further comprising:
after determining that the detected audio meets or exceeds the predefined decibel level, determining that the detected audio matches a template sound that corresponds to a security event, wherein the type of audio information indicates the template sound.
15 . The security system of claim 14 , wherein determining that the detected audio matches the template sound is performed by the security application executed by the smartphone.
16 . The security system of claim 14 , wherein determining that the detected audio matches the template sound is performed by the security system gateway.
17 . The security system of claim 13 , the operations further comprising:
determining a current location of the smartphone, wherein the audio information that represents the detected audio is transmitted by the smartphone and to the security system gateway when the current location of the smartphone is at the premises.
18 . The security system of claim 13 , the operations further comprising:
determining a current time of day, wherein the audio information that represents the detected audio is transmitted by the smartphone and to the security system gateway when the current time of day is within a preconfigured time window.
