Abstract

An electrocardiography patch is provided. A backing has an elongated strip with a midsection connecting two rounded ends. The midsection tapers in from each of the rounded ends and is narrower than each of the two rounded ends. Each electrode, of a pair of electrodes, is positioned on one of the rounded ends of the backing, on a contact surface, to capture electrocardiographic signals. A flex circuit is coupled to each of the electrodes. A non-conductive receptacle is affixed on an outer surface of the backing, opposite the contact surface. Electrical contacts are provided on a surface of the non-conductive receptacle opposite the backing. A battery is provided on the outer surface of the backing and a processor is powered by the battery to write the electrocardiographic signals into memory.

Claims (38)

1 . An electrocardiography patch, comprising:

a backing comprising an elongated strip with a midsection connecting two rounded ends, wherein the midsection is narrower than each of the two rounded ends, wherein the backing further comprises a pair of openings;

a pair of electrodes configured to capture electrocardiographic signals;

a non-conductive receptacle affixed to the backing and operable to removably receive an electrocardiography monitor, the non-conductive receptacle comprising:

electrical contacts, wherein the electrical contacts are provided on a surface opposite the backing;

a compartment; and

a battery disposed within the compartment;

a processor powered by the battery to write the electrocardiographic signals into memory; and

a layer configured to protect the backing prior to application on a patient.

2 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 1 , wherein the pair of openings are configured to retain hydrogel.

3 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 1 , wherein each electrode of the pair of electrodes is positioned on one of the rounded ends of the backing on a contact surface adjacent to one opening of the pair of openings.

4 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 1 , wherein the battery is one of rechargeable, replaceable, and disposable.

5 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 1 , further comprising an adhesive coating disposed on at least a portion of a contact surface of the backing.

6 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 5 , wherein the adhesive coats the two rounded ends of the backing on the contact surface.

7 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 5 , wherein the adhesive coating comprises a hydrocolloid.

8 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 1 , wherein the two rounded ends of the backing are different shapes.

9 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 1 , wherein the backing extends beyond a flex circuit.

10 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 1 , further comprising a SpO 2 sensor.

11 . An electrocardiography patch, comprising:

a backing comprising an elongated strip with a midsection connecting two rounded ends, wherein the midsection is narrower than each of the two rounded ends, wherein the backing further comprises a pair of openings;

a pair of electrodes configured to capture electrocardiographic signals;

a non-conductive receptacle affixed to the backing, the non-conductive receptacle comprising:

electrical contacts, wherein the electrical contacts are provided on a surface of the non-conductive receptacle opposite the backing;

a compartment; and

a battery disposed within the compartment;

a processor powered by the battery to write the electrocardiographic signals into memory; and

a housing configured to engage the non-conductive receptacle.

12 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 11 , wherein each electrode of the pair of electrodes is positioned on one of the rounded ends of the backing on a contact surface adjacent to one opening of the pair of openings.

13 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 11 , further comprising at least one of:

a retention catch formed on the non-conductive receptacle; and

a tension clip formed on the non-conductive receptacle.

14 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 11 , wherein the battery is one of rechargeable, replaceable, and disposable.

15 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 11 , further comprising and adhesive coating disposed on at least a portion of a contact surface of the backing.

16 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 15 , wherein the adhesive coats the two rounded ends of the backing on the contact surface.

17 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 15 , wherein the adhesive coating comprises a hydrocolloid.

18 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 11 , wherein the two rounded ends of the backing are different shapes.

19 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 11 , wherein the backing extends beyond a flex circuit.

20 . The electrocardiography patch of claim 11 , further comprising a SpO 2 sensor.
