Method and system for generating comparable visual maps for browsing activity analysis
Certain embodiments disclosed herein include a method and system for generating comparable visual maps for browsing activity analysis. A first visual map is generated respective of a web-page and a first set of parameters and a second visual map is generated respective of the web-page and a second set of parameters. In one embodiment, the second set of filter parameters is populated based on the first set of parameters and includes at least one filter parameter in difference. The second visual map is comparable to the first visual map, wherein the first and second visual map are rendered and displayed within a single display window.
1 . A method for generating a plurality of comparable visual maps of browsing activity of users, comprising:
receiving a first set of parameters for generating a first visual map, wherein the first set of parameters includes at least a uniform resource locator (URL) of a webpage on which the browsing activity is monitored;
retrieving, based on the selected first set of parameters, a first dataset including browsing within a page activity data;
generating a first graphical visual map using the first dataset and content of the webpage;
receiving a second set of parameters for generating a second graphical visual map, wherein the second set of parameters is comparable to the first set of parameters;
retrieving, based on the selected second set of parameters, a second dataset including browsing within a page activity data;
generating a second graphical visual map using the second dataset and the content of the webpage;
scaling each of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map to provide comparable visual representation of values of their respective data sets relative to each other; and
displaying the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map in a display window such that each is visible simultaneously in the display window and each is displayed over a respective representation of the content of the webpage.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first dataset and the second dataset are retrieved from a database in a secured manner.
3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
generating a first token based on the first set of data parameters;
generating a second token based on the second set of data parameters; and
accessing the database to retrieve the first data set and the second data set using the first token and the second token, respectively.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first data set and the second data set contains a type of browsing within a page data that is not contained in the other data set.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map includes at least one visualization layer and at least one data layer rendered over the representation of the content of the web page and wherein the database is secured by limiting access of the at least one visualization layer to the database.

The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map includes at least one visualization layer and at least one data layer rendered over the representation of the content of the web page and wherein the at least one data layer of the first graphical visual map is restricted from access by the second graphical visual map.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the browsing within a page activity data includes at least one of: mouse movement, scrolling of the web page, resizing of a browser window, a click event, keyboard use, orientation change, touch start, touch move, and touch end, for the web page.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the scaling of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map is proportional to a set of predefined values from the first dataset and from the second dataset.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each parameter of the first set of parameters and the second set of parameters includes any one of: a data range, a map type, and at least one filter parameter.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the at least one filter parameter is any of: a date, an event, demographics, technical information, a screen resolution, a traffic source, and a bounce rate.
11 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon instructions for causing one or more processing units to execute the method according to claim 1 .
12 . A system generating a plurality of comparable visual maps of users browsing activity, comprising:
a processor; and
a memory configured to the processor and configured to store instructions for causing the processor to:
receive a first set of parameters for generating a first visual map, wherein the first set of parameters includes at least a uniform resource locator (URL) of a webpage on which the browsing activity is monitored;
retrieve, based on the selected first set of parameters, a first dataset including browsing within a page activity data;
generate a first visual map using the first dataset and content of the webpage;
receive a second set of parameters for generating a second graphical visual map, wherein the second set of parameters is comparable to the first set of parameters;
retrieve, based on the selected second set of parameters, a second dataset including browsing within a page activity data;
generate a second graphical visual map using the second dataset and the content of the webpage;
scale each of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map to provide comparable visual representation of values of their respective data sets relative to each other; and
display the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map in a display window such that each is visible simultaneously in the display window and each is displayed over a respective representation of the content of the webpage.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the first dataset and the second dataset are retrieved from a database in a secured manner.
14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the system is further configured to:
generate a first token based on the first set of data parameters;
generate a second token based on the second set of data parameters; and
access the database to retrieve the first data set and the second data set using the first token and the second token, respectively.
15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the first data set and the second data set contains a type of browsing within a page data that is not contained in the other data set.
16 . The system of claim 12 , wherein each of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map includes at least one visualization layer and at least one data layer rendered over the representation of the content of the web page and wherein the at least one data layer of the first graphical visual map is restricted from access by the second graphical visual map.
17 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the browsing within a page activity data includes at least one of: mouse movement, scrolling of the web page, resizing of a browser window, a click event, keyboard use, orientation change, touch start, touch move, and touch end, for the web page.
18 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the system is further configured to proportionally scale the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map based on a set of predefined values from the first dataset and the second dataset.
19 . The system of claim 12 , wherein each parameter of the first set of parameters and the second set of parameters includes any one of: a data range, a map type, and at least one filter parameter.
20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the at least one filter parameter is at least one of: a date, an event, demographics, technical information, a screen resolution, traffic source, and a bounce rate.
21. A method for generating a plurality of comparable visual maps of browsing activity of users, comprising:
receiving, by a processor from a user interface displayed on a client device, a selected first set of parameters for generating a first graphical visual map, wherein the selected first set of parameters includes at least a uniform resource locator (URL) of a webpage on which browsing activity is monitored,
retrieving, based on the selected first set of parameters, a first dataset including first browsing within a page activity data;
generating the first graphical visual map using the first dataset and content of the webpage comprising graphically representing the first browsing within the page activity data according to the first dataset and over a version of the webpage;
receiving, from the user interface displayed on the client device, a selected second set of parameters for generating a second graphical visual map, wherein the selected second set of parameters is comparable to the selected first set of parameters and includes at least the URL of the webpage included in the selected first set of parameters;
retrieving, based on the selected second set of parameters, a second dataset including second browsing within the page activity data, wherein one or more of the first or second browsing within the page activity data comprises mouse movement on the webpage, location of mouse clicks on the webpage, scrolling on the webpage, keyboard uses on the webpage, or touch screen events on the webpage;
generating the second graphical visual map using the second dataset and the content of the webpage, comprising:
graphically representing the second browsing within the page activity data according to the second dataset and over the version of the webpage, wherein the version of the webpage comprises the content of the webpage;
scaling each of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map to generate a scaled first graphical visual map and a scaled second graphical visual map that provide comparable visual representation of values of their respective first and second datasets relative to each other and first browsing within the page activity data according to a scaled first dataset and the second browsing within the page activity data according to a scaled second dataset over the version of the webpage, wherein scaling the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map comprises:
computing a first ratio using a first statistical value associated with the first dataset and a first number of page views and a second ratio using a second statistical value associated with the second dataset and a second number of page views,
selecting, as a scaling factor, one of the first ratio or the second ratio, and
scaling the first dataset and the second dataset using the scaling factor to generate the scaled first dataset and the scaled second dataset;
displaying the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map in a display window of the user interface such that each is visible simultaneously in the display window and each is displayed over a respective representation of the content of the webpage for comparable visual representations of the first browsing within the page activity data and the second browsing within the page activity data,
wherein the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map comprise a plurality of graphical indicators to represent values in the scaled first dataset and the scaled second dataset for comparable visual representations of the first browsing within the page activity data and the second browsing within the page activity data;
generating a first token based on the selected first set of parameters;
generating a second token based on the selected second set of parameters; and
accessing a database to retrieve the first dataset and the second dataset using the first token and the secon token, respectively, wherein the first dataset and the second dataset are retrieved from the database in a secured manner.
22. The method of claim 21 , wherein at least one of the first dataset and the second dataset contains a type of browsing within a page activity data that is not contained in the other dataset.
23. The method of claim 21 , wherein generating the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map comprises rendering at least one visualization layer and at least one data layer based on the first dataset and the second dataset over the version of the webpage,
wherein each of the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map includes the at least on visualization layer and the at least one data layer rendered based on the scaled first dataset and the scaled second dataset over the representation of the content of the webpage,
wherein the database is secured by limiting access of the at least one visualization layer to the database.
24. The method of claim 21 , wherein generating the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map comprises rendering at least one visualization layer and at least on data layer based on the first dataset and the second dataset over the version of the webpage,
wherein each of the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map includes the at least one visualization layer and the at least one data layer rendered based on the scaled first dataset and the scaled second dataset over the representation of the content of the webpage,
wherein the at least one data layer of the first graphical visual map is restricted from access by the second graphical visual map.
25. The method of claim 21 , wherein the first of second browsing within the page activity data further comprises at least one of: resizing of a browser window, or orientation change on the webpage.
26. The method of claim 21 , wherein the scaling of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map futher comprises:
determining the first statistical value associated with the first dataset and the second statistical value associated with the second dataset, and
determining the first number of page views associated with the second graphical visual map.
27. The method of claim 21 , wherein each parameter of the selected first set of parameters and the selected second set of parameters includes any one of: a data range, a map type, and at least one filter parameter.
28. The method of claim 27 , wherein the at least one filter parameter is any one of: a date, an event, demographics, technical information, a screen resolution, a traffic source, and a bounce rate.
29. A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon instructions for causing one or more processing units to execute the method according to claim 21 .

The method of claim 21 , wherein each of the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map comprises at least one visualization layer and at least one data layer that applies a color code for comparable visual representations of the first browsing within the page activity data according to the scaled first dataset and the second browsing within the page activity data according to the scaled second dataset over the version of the webpage.

The method of claim 21 , wherein the first statistical value and the second statistical value comprises a maximum value in the first dataset and the second dataset, a minimum value in the first dataset and the second dataset, an average value in the first dataset and the second dataset, or an absolute value in the first dataset and the second dataset.
32. The method of claim 21 , wherein scaling the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map further comprises: normalizing the scaling factor using a mathematical or statistical function of the first number of page views and the second number of page views.
33. The method of claim 21 , wherein the first number of page views and the second number of page views comprise a number of times that the webpage was viewed by users according to the selected first set of parameters and the selected second set of parameters.
34. The method of claim 21 , wherein generating the first token and the second token further comprises:
concatenating a random number with the selected first set of parameters to generate the first token, and
concatenating a random number with the selected second set of parameters to generate the second token.
35. The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
configuring the database to require the first token to retrieve the first dataset and to require the second token to retrieve the second dataset.
36. The method of claim 21 ,
wherein the first browsing within the page activity data comprises mouse movement on the webpage, and the second browsing within the page activity data comprises location of mouse clicks on the webpage,
wherein the first dataset includes location values associated with the mouse movement on the webpage and the second dataset includes location values associated with the location of mouse clicks on the webpage.
37. The method of claim 21 , wherein the plurality of graphical indicators are a plurality of colors in a color code to represent different values or a plurality of shades in a grayscale to represent the different values.
38. A system for generating a plurality of comparable visual maps of users browsing activity, the system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory coupled to the processor and configured to store instructions for causing the processor to:
receive, from a user interface displayed on a client device, a selected first set of parameters for generating a first graphical visual map, wherein the selected first set of parameters includes at least a uniform resource locator (URL) of a webpage on which browsing activity is monitored;
retrieve, based on the selected first set of parameters, a first dataset including first browsing within a page activity data;
generate the first graphical visual map using the first dataset and content of the webpage comprising graphically representing the first browsing within the page activity data according to the first dataset and over a version of the webpage;
receive, from the user interface displayed on the client device, a selected second set of parameters for generating a second graphical visual map, wherein the selected second set of parameters is comparable to the selected first set of parameters and includes at least the URL of the webpage included in the selected first set of parameters;
retrieve, based on the selected second set of parameters, a second dataset including second browsing within the page activity data, wherein one or more of the first or second browsing within the page activity data comprises mouse movement on the webpage, location of mouse clicks on the webpage, scrolling on the webpage, keyboard uses on the webpage, or touch screen events on the webpage;
generate the second graphical visual map using the second dataset and the content of the webpage, comprising:
graphically representing the second browsing within the page activity data according to the second dataset and over the version of the webpage, wherein the version of the webpage comprises the content of the webpage;
scale each of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map to generate a scaled first graphical visual map and a scaled graphical visual map that provide comparable visual representation of values of their respective first and second datasets relative to each other and first browsing within the page activity data according to a scaled first dataset and the second browsing within the page activity data according to a scaled second dataset over the version of the webpage, wherein scaling the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map comprises:
computing a first ratio using a first statistical value associated with the first dataset and a first number of page views and a second ratio using a second statistical value associated with the second dataset and a second number of page views,
selecting, as a scaling factor, one of the first ratio or the second ratio, and
scaling the first dataset and the second dataset using the scaling factor to generate the scaled first dataset and the scaled second dataset;
display the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map in a display window of the user interface such that each is visible simultaneously in the display window and each is displayed over a respective representation of the content of the webpage for comparable visual representations of the first browsing within the page activity data and the second browsing within the page activity data,
wherein the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map comprise a plurality of graphical indicators to represent values in the scaled first dataset and the scaled second dataset for comparable visual representations of the first browsing within the page activity data and the second browsing within the page activity data;
generate a first token based on the selected first set of parameters;
generate a second token based on the selected second set of parameters; and
access a database to retrieve the first dataset and the second dataset using the first token and the second token, respectively, wherein the first dataset and the second dataset are retrieved from the database in a secured manner.
39. The system of claim 38 , wherein at least one of the first dataset and the second dataset contains a type of browsing within a page activity data that is not contained in the other dataset.
40. The system of claim 38 , wherein generating the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual map comprises rendering at least one visualization later and at least one data layer based on the first dataset and the second dataset over the version of the webpage,
wherein each of the scaled first graphical visual map and the scaled second graphical visual map includes the at least one visualization layer and the at least one data layer rendered based on the scaled first dataset and the scaled second dataset over the representation of the content of the webpage,
wherein the at least one data layer of the first graphical visual map is restricted from access by the second graphical visual map.
41. The system of claim 38 , wherein the first or second browsing within the page activity data further comprises at least one of: resizing of a browser window, or orientation change on the webpage.
42. The system of claim 38 , wherein the scaling of the first graphical visual map and the second graphical visual further comprises:
determining the first statistical value associated with the first dataset and the second statistical value associated with the second dataset, and
determining the first number of page views associated with the first graphical visual map and the second number of page views associated with the second graphical visual map.
43. The system of claim 38 , wherein each parameter of the selected first set of parameters and the selected second set of parameters includes any one of: a data range, a map type, and at least one filter parameter.
44. The system of claim 43 , wherein the at least one filter parameter is at least one of: a date, an event, demographics, technical information, a screen resolution, traffic source, and a bounce rate.
