Abstract

Systems, methods, and other modalities are described for (a) obtaining an indication relating to an emission module (which may be dangerous, e.g.) or its user (who may be untrained, e.g.) and for (b) configuring the module or causing an irradiation (for imaging, e.g.) in response to the indication.

Claims (151)

1. A portable system comprising:

means for receiving a remote signal, wherein the remote signal is a signal received by the means for receiving via at least one of the Internet, a cellular network, or a wide area network;

means for detecting one or more user actions and emitting a detection signal based on the detection of at least one of the one or more user actions;

means for controlling an ionizing radiation device in response to the detection signal; and

means for configuring the means for controlling in response to the remote signal, wherein the means for configuring is configured to receive communications from the means for receiving.

2. A portable system comprising:

circuitry for receiving a remote signal, wherein the remote signal is a signal received by the circuitry for receiving via at least one of the Internet, a cellular network, or a wide area network;

circuitry for detecting one or more user actions and emitting a detection signal based on the detection of at least one of the one or more user actions;

an ionizing radiation device operable in response to the detection signal; and

circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device in response to the remote signal, wherein the circuitry for configuring is configured to receive communications from the circuitry for receiving.

3. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a display configured to present video data in a vicinity of the ionizing radiation device.

4. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a display configured to present a facial image in a vicinity of the ionizing radiation device.

5. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a speaker configured to present audio data in a vicinity of the ionizing radiation device.

6. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an interface; and

a kiosk supporting the circuitry for receiving, the circuitry for detecting, the ionizing radiation device, the circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device, and the interface.

7. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a local interface configured to present data in response to the remote signal, wherein the local interface is configured to communicate with the circuitry for configuring without communications being routed through the Internet, a wide area network or a cellular network.

8. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

circuitry for transmitting an image indicating a position of a body part relative to a portion of the ionizing radiation device.

9. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

circuitry for sensing a position of the ionizing radiation device operable in response to the detection signal.

10. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

circuitry for triggering an emission of visible light in response to the detection signal.

11. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

circuitry for detecting one or more actions by another user and emitting a second detection signal based on a detection of an action of the one or more actions by the other user; and

circuitry for triggering an energy emission in response to the second detection signal.

12. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

circuitry for sensing a type of the ionizing radiation device.

13. The system of claim 2 in which circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device in response to the remote signal, wherein the circuitry for configuring is configured to receive communications from the circuitry for receiving comprises:

circuitry for resetting the ionizing radiation device responsive to the remote signal, wherein the circuitry for configuring is configured to receive communications from the circuitry for receiving.

14. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

circuitry for detecting ionizing radiation energy, from the ionizing radiation device , that has passed through a part of a subject's body.

15. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

one or more sensing elements operable for detecting energy from the emitter.

16. The system of claim 2 in which the ionizing radiation device comprises:

a single-use component.

17. The system of claim 2 in which the ionizing radiation device comprises:

an ionizing radiation emitter;

circuitry for detecting an emission from and counting cumulative emissions from the ionizing radiation emitter and outputting an emissions signal based on the cumulative emissions; and

circuitry for responding to the emission signal by preventing cumulative emissions from the ionizing radiation emitter greater than a limit on the cumulative emissions.

18. The system of claim 2 comprising:

an ionizing radiation emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

wherein the ionizing radiation device comprises:

circuitry for detecting an emission from and counting cumulative emissions from the ionizing radiation emitter and outputting an emissions signal based on the cumulative emissions; and

circuitry for responding to the emission signal by preventing an emission if the emission would allow at least an unspecified user to release more than 100kilojoules of ionizing radiation energy via the ionizing radiation emitter.

19. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device.

20. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

a kiosk configured to support at least the emitter, the circuitry for receiving, the circuitry for configuring and the ionizing radiation device.

21. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an ionizing radiation emitter controlled by the radiation device; and

a kiosk configured to support the circuitry for detecting, the ionizing radiation device and the ionizing radiation emitter.

22. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

a handheld device configured to support at least the emitter.

23. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

a handheld article including at least circuitry for detecting energy from the emitter.

24. The system of claim 2 , in which circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device in response to the remote signal, wherein the circuitry for configuring is configured to receive communications from the circuitry for receiving comprises:

circuitry for controlling a duration of an emission pulse in response to a parameter of the remote signal.

25. The system of claim 2 , in which circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device in response to the remote signal, wherein the circuitry for configuring is configured to receive communications from the circuitry for receiving comprises:

circuitry for controlling an emission profile in response to a parameter of the remote signal.

26. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a sensing element operable for detecting energy from the ionizing radiation device; and

a wearable article supporting the sensing element.

27. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a common emitter configured to emit gamma radiation and x-ray radiation responsive to the ionizing radiation device.

28. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a far-ultraviolet radiation emitter responsive to the ionizing radiation device.

29. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a gamma radiation emitter responsive to the ionizing radiation device.

30. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an x-ray emitter responsive to the ionizing radiation device.

31. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

one or more emitters configured for scanning;

at least one sensing element configured to capture data from output from at least one of the one or more emitters; and

circuitry for computing an image from the captured data.

32. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a local interface, wherein the local interface is configured to communicate with the circuitry for configuring without communications being routed via the Internet, a wide area network or a cellular network;

a kiosk supporting the ionizing radiation device, the circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device, the circuitry for detecting one or more user actions, and the local interface;

circuitry for detecting ionizing radiation energy, from the ionizing radiation device, that has passed through a part of a subject's body; and

a handheld article including at least the circuitry for detecting ionizing radiation energy.

33. The system of claim 32 , further comprising:

a display configured to present video data in a vicinity of the ionizing radiation device; and

an x-ray radiation emitter responsive to the ionizing radiation device.

34. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a local interface, wherein the local interface is configured to communicate with the circuitry for configuring without communications being routed through the Internet, a wide area network or a cellular network;

circuitry for detecting one or more actions by another user and emitting a second detection signal based on the detection of an action of the one or more actions by the other user;

a common structure supporting the ionizing radiation device, the circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device, and the local interface;

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

circuitry for triggering an energy emission in response to the second detection signal.

35. The system of claim 34 , further comprising:

a handheld device configured to support at least the emitter; and one or more sensing elements operable for detecting energy from the emitter.

36. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

circuitry for detecting one or more actions by another user and emitting a second detection signal based on the detection of an action of the one or more actions by the other user;

a sensing element operable for detecting energy from the ionizing radiation device;

a wearable article supporting the sensing element;

circuitry for triggering an emission of visible light in response to the second detection signal;

circuitry for transmitting an image indicating a position of a body part relative to a portion of the ionizing radiation device; and

circuitry for sensing a position of the ionizing radiation device operable in response to the detection signal.

37. The system of claim 36 , further comprising:

a display configured to present video data in a vicinity of the ionizing radiation device.

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and one or more sensing elements operable for detecting energy from the emitter.

38. The system of claim 36 , further comprising:

one or more emitters configured for scanning and controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

circuitry for triggering an energy emission in response to the second detection signal.

39. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a sensing element operable for detecting energy from the ionizing radiation device;

a wearable article supporting the sensing element;

an x-ray emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device; and

a kiosk configured to support at least the emitter.

40. The system of claim 39 , further comprising:

a handheld article including at least circuitry for detecting energy from the emitter; and

one or more sensing elements operable for detecting energy from the emitter.

41. The system of claim 39 in which the x-ray emitter is a common emitter configured to emit gamma radiation and x-ray radiation responsive to the ionizing radiation device.

42. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an emitter controlled by the ionizing radiation device;

one or more sensing elements operable for detecting energy from the emitter; and

circuitry for transmitting an image indicating a position of a body part relative to a portion of the ionizing radiation device.

43. The system of claim 42 , further comprising:

a kiosk configured to support at least the emitter; and

a handheld article including at least circuitry for detecting energy from the emitter.

44. The system of claim 42 , further comprising:

a local interface configured to present data in response to the remote signal, wherein the local interface is configured to communicate with the circuitry for configuring without communications being routed through the Internet, a wide area network or a cellular network.

45. The system of claim 2 , further comprising:

at least one sensing element configured to capture data from the output of the ionizing radiation device;

a local interface that comprises the circuitry for detecting one or more user actions, wherein the local interface is configured to communicate with the circuitry for configuring without communications being routed through the Internet, a wide area network or a cellular network;

a common structure supporting the ionizing radiation device, the circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device, the local interface and the circuitry for detecting one or more user actions;

circuitry for sensing a position of the ionizing radiation device operable in response to the detection signal; and

circuitry for computing an image from the data captured by the at least one sensing element.

46. The system of claim 45 , further comprising:

circuitry for transmitting an image indicating a position of a body part relative to a portion of the ionizing radiation device;

a speaker configured to present audio data in a vicinity of the ionizing radiation device; and

a display configured to present a facial image in a vicinity of the ionizing radiation device.

47. The system of claim 2 , wherein the circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device in response to a the remote signal, wherein the circuitry for configuring is configured to receive communications from the circuitry for receiving comprises:

wherein the circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device locally in response to a the remote signal, wherein the circuitry for configuring is configured to receive communications from the circuitry for receiving and wherein the circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device locally is configured to perform the configuring locally by not communicating configuration commands via the Internet, a wide area network or a cellular network.

48. A portable system comprising:

a sensor configured to detect one or more user actions and to issue a detection signal based on a detection of at least one of the one or more user actions;

a receiver configured to receive a remote signal, wherein the remote signal is a signal received by the receiver via at least one of the Internet, a cellular network, or a wide area network;

an ionizing radiation device operable in response to the detection signal; and

circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device in response to the remote signal, the circuitry being configured to communicate with the receiver.

49. The system of claim 48 , in which circuitry for configuring the ionizing radiation device in response to the remote signal, the circuitry being configured to communicate with the receiver for receiving the remote signal comprises:

circuitry for controlling at least one of:

a duration of an emission pulse in response to a parameter of the remote signal; or

an emission profile in response to a parameter of the remote signal.
