Abstract

An improved system and method for supporting web system services is provided for storing data and context of client applications on the web. A client application may include a web system services interface for invoking web system services to support web applications to operate over the web using different devices that may store data and context of web applications as a web application document onto a web server. A web application document may be represented by components that may include view information, content, and context information. The application may also include a web system services user interface for providing a graphical user interface for a user to invoke web system services that may include a new document system service, a store document system service, and a restore document system service. A schema for context scope may be implemented for collecting context information relevant to the web application document.

Claims (44)

1. A computer system for processing application data for storage on a network, comprising:

a web application document having content and context information input by different web applications operating on different client devices connected to the network, the context information including one or more items of information from at least one RSS feed;

wherein each client device is associated with a single registered user authenticated via a web application server, where said single registered user is a user of each of the client devices;

wherein the content is formatted differently for each client device;

a plurality of web system services operably coupled to the different client devices for performing a plurality of operations on the web application document;

a context information monitor operably coupled to each of the different web applications monitoring and collecting the context information to be incorporated into the web application document, said context information comprising a stream of keywords related to the web application document;

wherein said context information is used by the different web applications accessing the web application document from one or more additional devices connected to the network;

wherein a scope of the context information is selectable by the user;

wherein the context information monitor comprises a kernel component; and

a storage operably coupled to the plurality of web system services storing the web application document and accessible by the client device over the network.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the plurality of web system services comprises a new document service for creating the web application document.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein the plurality of web system services comprises a store document service for storing the content and context information of the web application document on the storage.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein the plurality of web system services comprises a restore document service for restoring the content and context information of the web application document on the client device.

5. The system of claim 1 further comprising a web system services interface operably coupled to the web system services for invoking performance of the plurality of operations on the web application document.

6. The system of claim 1 further comprising an identity information storage operably coupled to the web system services for providing user information for locating storage for storing the web application document.

7. A computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable components comprising the system of claim 1 .

8. A computer-implemented method for processing application data for storage on a network, comprising:

receiving a request for performing a web system service on a web application document having content and context information input by different web applications operating on different client devices connected to the network, the context information including one or more items of information from at least one RSS feed;

monitoring and collecting context information to be incorporated into a web application document;

wherein each client device is associated with a single registered user authenticated via a web application server, where said single registered user is a user of each of the client devices;

wherein the content is formatted differently for each client device;

determining whether the request for performing the operation on the web application document is authorized; and

performing the operation on the web application document if authorized.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein receiving the request for performing the web system service on the web application document comprises receiving a request for storing the web application document on a web server.

10. The method of claim 8 wherein receiving the request for performing the web system service on the web application document comprises receiving a request for creating the web application document.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising receiving content and context information to input into the web application document.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising storing the web application document on a web server.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising sending executable code for invoking the web system service to be performed on the web application document.

14. The method of claim 8 wherein receiving the request for performing the web system service on the web application document comprises receiving a request for restoring the content and context information of the web application document stored on a web server to an application operating on one of the client devices.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein receiving the request for performing the web system service on the web application document comprises receiving a request for restoring the content and context information of the web application document stored on a web server to a different application operating on a client device different from the client device that stored the web application document.

16. The method of claim 8 further comprising receiving a request to send executable code for invoking the web system service to be performed on the web application document.

17. A computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable instructions for performing the method of claim 8 .

18. A computer system for processing application data for storage on a network, comprising:

a memory;

a processor; and

computer-executable program code stored in the memory and executable by the processor, the computer-executable program code comprising:

monitoring and collecting context information to be incorporated into a web application document;

a creating module configured to create a web application document having content and context information input from a plurality of applications operating on different client devices connected to the network, the context information including one or more items of information from at least one RSS feed;

wherein each client device is associated with a single registered user authenticated via a web application server, where said single registered user is a user of each of the client devices;

wherein the content is formatted differently for each client device;

an inputting module configured to input the content and context information from the plurality of the applications into the web application document, wherein said context information is specific to each application; and

a storing module configured to store the web application document on a web server accessible by the client device over the network.

19. The computer system of claim 18 wherein the computer-executable program code further comprises a restoration module configured to restore the content and context information from the web application document stored on the web server for display by the application operating on the client device connected to the network, wherein said client device is different from the client device that stored the web application document.

20. The computer system of claim 18 wherein the computer-executable program code further comprises a restoration module configured to restore the content and context information from the web application document stored on the web server for display by a different application operating on a different device connected to the network, wherein said client device is different from the client device that stored the web application document.
