Printhead with ink distribution through aligned apertures
View Patent ↗An inkjet printhead that has an elongate chassis, first groups of apertures spaced along the elongate chassis, an ink distribution unit defining a plurality of ink distribution passages and second groups of apertures in fluid communication with respective ink distribution passages, the ink distribution unit being mounted to the elongate chassis so that the first group of apertures and the second group of apertures coincide and, a plurality of printhead modules for ejecting ink supplied through the ink distribution passages and the aligned first and second groups.
1. An inkjet printhead comprising:
an elongate chassis;
first groups of apertures spaced along the elongate chassis;
an ink distribution unit defining a plurality of ink distribution passages and second groups of apertures in fluid communication with respective ink distribution passages, the ink distribution unit being mounted to the elongate chassis so that the first group of apertures and the second group of apertures coincide; and,
a plurality of printhead modules for ejecting ink supplied through the ink distribution passages, the first group of apertures and the second group of apertures.
2. A printhead as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the elongate chassis is a channel and an elongate support plate, the channel having two sets of notches located on either side of the channel and the elongate support plate is held in the channel by peripheral tabs located within respective notches.
3. A printhead as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising an extrusion engaged with the support plate and defining a plurality of grooves in which respective copper bus bars can be received.
4. A printhead as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the chassis has a plurality of compressible conductive strips located within respective grooves and supporting respective bus bars.
5. A printhead as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the chassis defines two sets of twist tabs located on either side of the channel, and the chassis assembly has another support plate defining a plurality of apertures with which the twist tabs can be engaged so that the extrusion, bus bars and conductive strips are held together within the channel.
6. A printhead as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the ink distribution unit has an electrometric extrusion defining the ink distribution passages and an end-cap defining a plurality of plugs which can cap respective ink distribution passages.
7. A printhead as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each printhead module has an elongate integrated circuit (IC) configured to eject ink and the ICs of each printhead module overlap with any ICs of adjacent printhead modules.
