Abstract

A novel maize variety designated PH1M1Y and seed, plants and plant parts thereof. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprise crossing maize variety PH1M1Y with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into PH1M1Y through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. Hybrid maize seed, plant or plant part produced by crossing the variety PH1M1Y or a locus conversion of PH1M1Y with another maize variety.

Claims (29)

1. A seed, plant, plant part, or cell of inbred maize variety PH1M1Y, representative seed of said variety having been deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-120434.

2. A method of plant breeding comprising a) isolating nucleic acids from the seed of inbred maize variety PH1M1Y of claim 1 , b) identifying one or more polymorphisms from the isolated nucleic acids, and c) selecting a plant having one or more of the identified polymorphisms wherein the plant is used in a plant breeding method.

3. A maize seed produced by crossing the plant or plant part of claim 1 with a different maize plant.

4. A maize plant produced by growing the maize seed of claim 3 .

5. A method for producing a second maize plant, wherein said method comprises applying a plant breeding technique to a first maize plant, or parts thereof, wherein said first maize plant is the maize plant of claim 4 , and wherein application of said technique results in the production of said second maize plant.

6. The method for producing a second maize plant of claim 5 , wherein said breeding technique comprises:

(a) crossing said first maize plant with itself or another maize plant to produce seed of a subsequent generation;

(b) harvesting and planting the seed of the subsequent generation to produce at least one plant of the subsequent generation; and

(c) repeating steps (a) and (b) for an additional 2-10 generations to produce second maize plant.

7. The second maize plant produced by the method of claim 6 , wherein said second maize plant has all of the same phenotypic characteristics of inbred maize variety PH1M1Y.

8. The method for producing a second maize plant of claim 5 , wherein said breeding technique comprises:

(a) crossing said first maize plant with an inducer variety to produce haploid seed; and

(b) doubling the haploid seed to produce a second maize plant.

9. The second maize plant produced by the method of claim 8 , wherein said second maize plant has all of the same phenotypic characteristics of inbred maize variety PH1M1Y.

10. A seed of inbred maize variety PH1M1Y, representative seed of said variety having been deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-120434, further comprising a locus conversion, wherein a plant grown from said seed further comprising a locus conversion has essentially the same phenotypic characteristics listed in Table 1 as inbred maize variety PH1M1Y when grown under the same environmental conditions.

11. The seed of claim 10 , wherein the locus conversion confers a trait selected from the group consisting of male sterility, site-specific recombination, abiotic stress tolerance, altered phosphorus, altered antioxidants, altered fatty acids, altered essential amino acids, altered carbohydrates, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance and disease resistance.

12. A method of plant breeding comprising a) isolating nucleic acids from the seed of inbred maize variety PH1M1Y of claim 10 , b) identifying one or more polymorphisms from the isolated nucleic acids, and c) selecting a plant having one or more of the identified polymorphisms wherein the plant is used in a plant breeding method.

13. A second maize seed, plant, plant part, or cell produced by crossing a plant or plant part of inbred maize variety PH1M1Y with another plant, wherein representative seed of said inbred maize variety PH1M1Y has been deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-120434.

14. A plant, plant part, or cell grown from the seed further comprising a locus conversion of claim 10 .

15. A maize seed produced by crossing the plant or plant part of claim 14 with a different maize plant.

16. A maize plant produced by growing the seed of claim 15 .

17. A method for producing a second maize plant, wherein said method comprises applying a plant breeding technique to a first maize plant, or parts thereof, wherein said first maize plant is the maize plant of claim 16 , and wherein application of said technique results in production of said second maize plant.

18. The method for producing a second maize plant of claim 17 , wherein said breeding technique comprises:

(a) crossing said first maize plant with itself or another maize plant to produce seed of a subsequent generation;

(b) harvesting and planting the seed of the subsequent generation to produce at least one plant of the subsequent generation; and

(c) repeating steps (a) and (b) for an additional 2-10 generations to produce a second maize plant.

19. The method for producing a second maize plant of claim 17 , wherein said breeding technique comprises:

(a) crossing said first maize plant with an inducer variety to produce haploid seed; and

(b) doubling the haploid seed to produce a second maize plant.
