Abstract

A single trigger system and associated method for manipulating tissues and anatomical or other structures in medical applications for the purpose of treating diseases or disorders or other purposes. In one aspect, the system includes a delivery device configured to deploy and implant anchor devices for such purposes.

Claims (24)

1. A system including an anchor assembly for assembly within a patient's body, comprising:

a first anchor member;

a second anchor member including a first part and a second part;

a connector joining the first and second anchor members;

wherein one or both of the first and second parts are configured to be initially detached and then assembled by joining with the connector and each other via a locking engagement between the first and second parts within a patient's body;

wherein the system is configured with a single trigger which accomplishes the assembly of the anchor assembly within a patient's body and accomplishes the implantation of an assembled anchor assembly;

wherein the system is configured to deploy a plurality of anchor assemblies.

2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a needle assembly, wherein the system includes structure to extend the needle assembly to varying depths.

3. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a mechanism to prevent incomplete activation of the trigger.

4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a scope wherein the scope extends substantially toward a terminal end of the anchor delivery device and provides a complete or partial view of deployment and assembly of same or all of the anchor assemblies.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a needle assembly, the needle assembly configured to house the first anchor member and connector, the needle assembly being operatively associated with the trigger.

6. The system of claim 5 , further comprising a first pusher assembly, the first pusher assembly being operatively associated with the trigger and being placed into engagement with the first anchor member and connector.

7. The system of claim 6 , further comprising a relative movement assembly operatively associated with the trigger, wherein actuation of a first actuator accomplishes the relative movement between the pusher assembly and the needle assembly.

8. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a second pusher assembly, the second pusher assembly being operatively associated with the trigger and being placed into engagement with one part of the second anchor assembly.

9. The system of claim 8 , further comprising a tension mechanism that is configured to apply approximately one pound of force on the connector.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the tension mechanism is configured to apply approximately one half to five pounds force on the connector.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the tension mechanism is configured to apply a selectable tension between approximately a half pound to five pounds of force on the connector.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the anchor delivery device includes a penetrating member which is extendable from the system.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the first anchor member is delivered through the penetrating member.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the first anchor member and connector are pushed through the penetrating member by a rotary drive mechanism.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the second anchor member is not delivered through the penetrating member.

16. The system of claim 13 , wherein the penetrating member is operatively associated with a tensile load system to thereby produce a load on the first anchor member when the penetrating member is retracted.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the tensile load system is a rotary mechanism.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system houses a plurality of anchor assemblies.
